Vexev - Frater Superior (Under the Sign of Garazel Productions 2022)

Uff, od czego tu zacząć, poza faktem, że płyta mną pozamiatała już przy pierwszym odsłuchu? Teraz katuję ją już nie wiem, który raz i nie mam dość. "Frater Superior" to już czwarte demo włoskiego Vexev i pierwsze, jakiego dane mi było posłuchać (ale będę nadrabiał, bo jest co!). Zespół tworzy surowy black metal, z kapitalnymi klawiszowymi tłami (robią tu klimat jakich mało). Śmiem twierdzić, że są tu tak samo ważnym elementem jak gitary, idą obie sekcje w parze niczym lita ściana dźwięku. Album jest w swej estetyce okultystyczny, rytualny, pełen diabelskiej, mistycznej aury. "Frater Superior" brzmi jak black metalowa ścieżka do jakiegoś obrzędu odbywającego się w zapomnianej świątyni, grocie, w mroku, przy świetle świec, unoszącym się w powietrzu zapachu krwi i kadzideł. Bardzo spodobało mi się jak zespół połączył potężną sekcję rytmiczną, całość instrumentarium podbił pogłosem - nadając materiałowi echa.przestrzenności, a wokal zaserwował surowy, trzeszczący jak z jakieś bardzo starej demówki, kiedy dostęp do super sprzętu był dla zespołów z podziemia nieosiągalny. Współgra to ze sobą niesamowicie! Mamy kwiecień i z tego, co słyszałem, to na tę chwilę nie pojawił się żaden materiał w ramach black metalu, który tak bardzo by mi siadł i tak mnie zaczarował. Prześcignęli nawet Akathartos, który również oceniłem bardzo wysoko. Czekam na coś równie dobrego, jeżeli nie, to jest to dla mnie płyta roku w temacie! Kropka!

Uff, where to start, apart from the fact that the album just blew me away from the first listening? Now I'm playing it for the x-time already and I can't get enough. "Frater Superior" is the fourth demo of the Italian Vexev and the first one that I had the opportunity to listen to (but I will make up for it, because it's totally worth it!). The band creates raw black metal, with great keyboard backgrounds (they create an atmosphere that is hard to find). I dare say that they are just as important here as the guitars, both sections go hand in hand like a solid wall of sound. The album is occult, ritualistic in its aesthetics, full of devilish, mystical aura. "Frater Superior" sounds like a black metal score to some ritual taking place in a forgotten temple, cave, in the dark, by the light of candles, with the scent of blood and incense floating in the air. I really liked how the band combined a powerful rhythm section, boosted the whole instrumentation with reverb - giving the material an echo of space, and the vocal served raw, crackling like from some very old demo, when access to good quality equipment was unaccesible for underground bands. It works together givig an amazing experience! It's April and from what I heard, at the moment there is no black metal material that would appeal to much that much and enchant me to the bone. They even surpassed Akathartos, which I also rated very highly. I'm waiting for something equally good, if not, this is the album of the year for me in the subject of black metal! I have spoken!

Yfel 1710 / Martwa Aura - Kali Yuga Boys (Under the Sign of Garazel 2022)

Kilka dni temu trafił do mnie split Yfel 1710 oraz Martwej Aury o osobliwej nazwie "Kali Yuga Boys". Ciekaw byłem, co nowego zaproponują oba zespoły, zwłaszcza Yfel 1710, który 2 lata temu miał znakomite wejście swoim debiutanckim albumem "Willa Wisielców". A Martwa Aura, wiadomo, wymiotła swoim "Morbus Animus". No, ale do rzeczy. Już od pierwszych kanonad wystrzelonych przez oba zespoły widać, że forma jest, a co ważniejsze ten sam wysoki poziom kompozycji, co na ostatnich ich dokonaniach. To nie ulega wątpliwości. Yfel 1710, jak to na nich przystało, zaserwował cztery agresywne numery, pełne energii, wściekłości, który podbijają teksty wykrzyczane po polsku. Natomiast Martwa Aura zabalansowała całość dwoma rozbudowanymi kompozycjami z ogromem klimatu, mroku i po raz kolejny, znakomitymi solowymi partiami gitar, którym dano tzw. swoje pięć minut. Zespół potrafił tymi dwoma numerami zarówno zaczarować atmosferą, odrobiną refleksyjności, aby zaraz przywalić cysterną siarki. Brzmieniowo też u obu grup zastrzeżeń brak. Oba zespoły zabrzmiały mocno, z konkretnym mięchem. Słuchało mi się tego dobrze, aczkolwiek ten split spotka pewnie ten sam los, co inne, które posiadam czy posiadałem. Zawsze jest to kilka pierwszych odsłuchów i potem na ogół do nich nie wracam, od tej reguły rzadko kiedy trafia się wyjątek. Jakoś nie przepadam za tą formą wydawniczą. Wolę pełne albumy i epki, może ze względu na to, że jak odpalam płytę, to mam ochotę na jeden konkretny zespół, od początku do końca. No, ale dość tego wtrącenia. Jeżeli ktoś lubi splity i oba wyżej wymienione zespoły, to wstydem będzie nie polecić, więc tak, jak najbardziej polecam, bo to obiektywnie bardzo dobry materiał.

A few days ago I received a split of Yfel 1710 and Martwa Aura under a peculiar title "Kali Yuga Boys". I was curious what new both bands would propose, especially Yfel 1710, which two years ago had a great entrance with their debut album "Willa Wisielców". And Martwa Aura, you know, made their greatest opus "Morbus Animus". Well, to the point. From the very first cannons launched by both bands, it can be seen that they are in very good creative form, and more importantly, the present  the same high level of composition as in their recent achievements. This is beyond doubt. Yfel 1710, as befits them, served four aggressive tracks, full of energy and fury, which is boosted by lyrics shouted out in Polish. On the other hand, Martwa Aura balanced the whole with two extensive compositions with an enormous atmosphere, darkness and, once again, excellent solo guitar parts, which were given the so-called their five minutes. With these two tracks, the band was able to both enchant with the atmosphere, a bit of reflection, and then hit with the cistern of sulfur. In terms of sound, both groups did their best. Both bands sounded strong, with specific heaviness. It was nice to listen to, although this split will probably meet the same fate as others that I have or had. It is always the first few listening sessions and then I usually do not come back to them, an exception is rarely made from this rule. Somehow I do not like this release form. I prefer full albums and EPs, maybe because when I play an album, I want one particular band, from beginning to end. But enough of this interjection. If someone likes splits and both of the above-mentioned bands, it will be a shame not to recommend it, so I recommend it as much as possible, because it is objectively a very good material.

Akathartos - Baptized by Darkness (Under the Sign of Garazel 2021)

Nie mogę przeboleć faktu, że nie zakręciłem się za tą płytą w ubiegłym roku. Jestem przekonany, że wylądowałaby w podsumowaniu roku prześcigając jakiś inny wybrany przeze mnie album. No, ale trudno, ważne, że ostatecznie wpadła mi w łapy. Zatem do rzeczy, mili Państwo. Debiut Akathartos to płyta z gatunku tych, które autentycznie mają w sobie diabła. To sztuka na wskroś przesiąknięta okultyzmem i mrokiem, to muzyczny manifest zła, czerni i obłędu. Śmiem twierdzić, że to nawet coś więcej niż stricte black metal. Poza tą muzyką w swojej pierwotnej, surowej i bezkompromisowej formie, znajdziecie tu elementy dark ambientu, ale i dźwięków, które mogą towarzyszyć wszelakim rytuałom i misteriom, atmosfera jest tu niesamowita - dzwony, inkantacje, wrzaski. Dostajemy tu 28 minut mrocznej sztuki najwyższej próby! Jeżeli miałbym wskazać twory jakkolwiek oscylujące wokół tego, co stworzył Akathartos na "Baptized by Darkness", to mógłbym wymienić Void Meditation Cult, Demoncy, Serpent Ritual czy Hellvetron. Dodatkowo unosi się nad tym surowizna i bluźnierstwo spod znaku Perverted Ceremony, Xarzebaal, Beherit oraz szaleństwo Abruptum. Bez tego muzyka ta nie miałaby aż takiego efektu na słuchaczu. Niemniej, co pragnę od razu zaznaczyć, żadna z tych grup nie gra tak samo jak Akathartos, ani też omawiany zespół nie jest klonem wymienionych aktów. To są tylko pewne cechy wspólne mające nakreślić wam obraz tego, czego możecie się tu spodziewać. Moim zdaniem Akathartos udało się stworzyć to, czego tym grupom w ostatecznym rozrachunku zabrakło. Mamy tu wypadkową wszystkiego, czego można byłoby oczekiwać w tego typu sztuce. Składniki muzyki Akathartos oraz ich balans stworzyły dzieło moim zdaniem idealne! Czekam na kolejną ich płytę, a na razie ponownie zanurzam się w otchłań "Baptized by Darkness".

I can't get over the fact that I didn't come across this record last year. I am convinced that it would land on the yearly summary outperforming one of the albums I have chosen. Well, the most important thing is that it finally fell into my hands. So to the point, ladies and gentlemen. Akathartos' debut is an album in the genre of those that genuinely have the devil in them. This art is thoroughly saturated with occultism and darkness, it is a musical manifesto of evil, blackness and madness. I dare to say that it is even something more than strictly black metal. In addition to this music in its original, raw and uncompromising form, you will find here elements of dark ambient, but also sounds that can accompany all rituals and mysteries, the atmosphere here is amazing - bells, chants, screams. We get 28 minutes of dark art of the highest order here! If I were to point out creations in any way oscillating around what Akathartos created on "Baptized by Darkness", I could mention Void Meditation Cult, Demoncy, Serpent Ritual or Hellvetron. In addition, the rawness and blasphemy of Perverted Ceremony, Xarzebaal, Beherit and insanity of Abruptum are hovering over it. Without it, this music would not have such an effect on the listener. However, as I would like to point out right away, neither of these groups play the same stuff as Akathartos, nor is this band a clone of the acts mentioned. These are just some commonalities to give you a picture of what to expect here. In my opinion, Akathartos managed to create what these groups ultimately lacked. We have here the resultant of everything that could be expected in this type of art. The ingredients of Akathartos music and their balance created a perfect piece in my opinion! I'm waiting for their next album, and for now I'm plunging back into the abyss of "Baptized by Darkness".

War - Ex Tenebris Nasceris Ut Deleas (Under the Sign of Garazel 2004/2021)

Mało już kto pamięta, że War byli jednymi z prekursorów black metalu w Polsce. Zespół powstał w 1993 roku. Miał na koncie dwa dema i cztery pełne płyty. Swój pierwszy długograj nagrali osiem lat po drugim demie "The War Horde" z 1994. "Ex Tenebris Nasceris Ut Deleas" to ich drugi album wydany pierwotnie w 2004. W ubiegłym roku wznowiło to dzieło Under the Sign of Garazel. wydanie jest skromne, ale muzyka zawarta na krążku to znakomity, surowy black metal nawiązujący do stylu grania z połowy lat 90. Tak właśnie brzmi ta płyta, jakby nagrano ją co najmniej dziesięć lat wcześniej w stosunku do wydania pierwszego. I nie chodzi tu o jakość brzmienia, które jest bardzo dobre, mimo surowości materiału, a o jego walory estetyczne. War prezentuje tu sztukę nie przebierającą w środkach. Płyta uderza w samo sedno tej sztuki i ma głęboko w życi trendy, jakie już po 2000 roku potrafiły brać górę nad szczerością i autentycznością wykonywanej muzyki. War wypiął się na to wszystko i robił swoje. Dzięki temu nagrali znakomity materiał, który wznowiony siedemnaście lat po jego wydaniu wcale się nie zestarzał i nie stracił na swojej mocy. Jest tu trochę echa sceny norweskiej, zwłaszcza w brzmieniu i budowanie riffów, niemniej War brzmi po swojemu, wykorzystując zaledwie namiastkę inspiracji do tworzenia własnej mrocznej sztuki. Cóż, nie powiem, takie reedycje cieszą i oby było ich więcej. Wciąż jest cała masa zapomnianych materiałów z naszej sceny, które nie doczekały się wznowień lub pojawiały się w bardzo małych nakładach i tylko na kasecie. Szacun dla UtSoG za to wydawnictwo!

Hardly anyone remembers that War were one of the precursors of black metal in Poland. The band was founded in 1993. They released two demos and four full-length albums. They recorded their first full-length eight years after their second demo, "The War Horde" in 1994. "Ex Tenebris Nasceris Ut Deleas" is their second record originally released in 2004. Last year, Under the Sign of Garazel re-released it. The release is modest, but the music contained on the disc is excellent, raw black metal referring to the style of playing from the mid-90s. This is what the album sounds like, as if it was recorded at least ten years earlier according to its original release date. And it is not about the quality of the sound, which is very good, despite the rawness of the material, but about its aesthetic qualities. Here, War presents an art that does not disguise itself in any way. The album hits the point of this art and doesn't give a shit about trends that after 2000 sometimes dominated over honesty and authenticity of the music performed. War diftn't care about it and did their job. Thanks to this, they recorded excellent material, which, re-released seventeen years after its release, hasn't aged at all and has not lost its power. There is some echo of the Norwegian scene here, especially in the sound and construction of the riffs, but War sounds on its own, using only a bit of inspiration to create their own dark art. Well, I will not say, such reissues are enjoyable and hopefully there would be more of them. There is still a lot of forgotten materials from Polish scene that has't been re-issued or appeared in very little circulation and only on tape. Respect to UtSoG for this release!

Hell's Coronation - Morbid Spells (Under the Sign of Garazel / Black Death Production 2021)

Z Hell's Coronation jest podobnie jak z Nekkrofukk, to niemal bratnie mroczne dusze, parające się oldschoolowym black/doom metalem. Oba zespoły od założenia nie odkrywały niczego nowego. Zagłębiają się w muzykę, której sami są fanami i tworzą materiały bardzo bezpośrednie, szczere i niczym nieskrępowane. Hell's Coronation w swym brzmieniu i klimacie oddaje hołd takim ekipom jak stary Samael, Hellhammer, Bathory czy Beherit. I to się nie zmienia, tutaj konsekwencja jest podstawą. "Morbid Spells" to materiał z niedawno wydanego na kasecie splitu z Cult ov Black Blood. Także mamy tu trzy numery trwające niespełna szesnaście minut. Moim faworytem jest wchodzący po intro "Blashemous Bells". Ten utwór ma niesamowity mistyczny i niepokojący klimat z rozbrzmiewającymi w tle dzwonami. Toczy się niczym walec, niczym rytualna inkantacja. Miarowa perkusja, złowieszczy riff przewodni i sączący wokalny jad Zepar. Śmiem twierdzić, że ten numer mógłby być wizytówką Hell's Coronation. Nie dziwi mnie fakt, że znalazł się na splicie; w końcu tego typu wydawnictwa są świetnym wprowadzeniem w twórczość danego zespołu. Krótki, treściwy i bardzo dobry materiał. W sam raz na oczekiwanie na kolejny album (w końcu niedługo miną dwa lata od pierwszego pełniaka). To po prostu Hell's Coronation - wiadomo, czego się po nich spodziewać.

Hell's Coronation is similar to Nekkrofukk, two twin and dark souls, dealing with old school black/doom metal. Both bands haven't discovered anything new from the very beginning. They sink into the music they are fans of themselves and create materials that are direct, honest and uninhibited. Hell's Coronation in its sound and atmosphere pays tribute to such bands like the old Samael, Hellhammer, Bathory and Beherit. And it doesn't change, consistency is the key here. "Morbid Spells" is a material from the recently released cassette split with Cult ov Black Blood. So we have three tracks lasting less than sixteen minutes. My favorite is "Blashemous Bells" that follows the intro. This composition has an amazing mystical and disturbing vibe with bells ringing in the background. It moves like a roller, like a ritual incantation. Mid tempo percussion, sinister leading riff and Zepar's oozing vocal venom. I dare to say that this number could be Hell's Coronation's top one. I am not surprised that it was prepared for the split; after all, this type of release is a great introduction to the work of a given band. Short, pithy and very good material. Just in time while waiting for the next album (after all, it will soon be two years since the first full-length). It's just Hell's Coronation - you know what to expect from them.

Nyctophilia/Hellmoon - Under the Darkest Sign of Ancient Evil SPLIT (Under the Sign of Garazel 2020)

Chyba w życiu nie słyszałem tak spójnego i dobranego splitu. Nyctophilia i Hellmoon jawią się tu niczym dwa bliźniacze zespoły, którym przyświeca ten sam cel - kult black metalu lat 90., ale nie tego ze wsparciem klawiszy. O nie! Na pierwszy rzut oka (czy ucha) oba zespoły nawiązują swym graniem do wczesnej twórczości Tsjudera, Taake, Setherial, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, a przede wszystkim starego Darkthrone. Ale to nie wszystko! Nyctophilia dodaje do tego nieco tej charakterystycznej melancholii, chłodu i tęsknoty znanej ze Striborg, Xasthur czy Evilfeast. Jest mróz i przeszywające riffy. Każdy, kto słyszał poprzednie dzieła Nyctophilii wie, czego się spodziewać i z pewnością się nie zawiedzie.

Ze strony Hellmoon, poza wspomnianymi odniesieniami, lecą bardziej galopujące partie gitar, zahaczające o wczesne dzieła Desaster ("A Touch of Medieval Darkness"). Hellmoon to też ścieżka, którą obecnie kroczą Warmoon Lord czy Werwolf. Zarówo brzmienie, jak i wokal są również surowsze niż na materiale Nyctophilii. Znajdą się tu też jakieś nieco melodyjne riffy, jeżeli można o takowych mówić w kontekście stosunkowo piwnicznego materiału.

Podsumowując, złego słowa powiedzieć nie mogę. Split wyszedł bardzo dobrze, materiały mają klimat, trzymają poziom i robią fajną wizytówkę obu zespołom. Zwłaszcza Hellmoon, który ma za sobą dopiero jeden pełny materiał, którego próżno szukać na na jakimkolwiek nośniku w naszym kraju. Polecam!

I don't think I've heard such a coherent and well-chosen split in my life. Nyctophilia and Hellmoon appear here as two twin bands with the same goal - the cult of black metal of the '90s, but not the one with keyboard backgrounds. Oh no! At first glance (or hearing) both bands refer to the early works of Tsjuder, Taake, Setherial, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, and, above all, the old Darkthrone. But it is not everything! Nyctophilia adds a bit of that characteristic melancholy, coldness and longing known from Striborg, Xasthur or Evilfeast. There is frost and pircing riffs. Anyone who has heard previous works of Nyctophilia knows what to expect and will not be disappointed.

From the Hellmoon side, apart from the aforementioned references, there are more galloping guitar parts that hook up with the early works of Desaster ("A Touch of Medieval Darkness"). Hellmoon is also on the path that Warmoon Lord and Werwolf are currently walking. The sound and vocals are also rougher than on the Nyctophilia material. You will also find some slightly melodic riffs, if you can talk about them in the context of relatively basement-like material.

To sum up, I cannot say a bad word. The split turned out very well, the materials have the atmosphere, are of the same quality and make a nice showcase for both bands. Especially Hellmoon, who has only one full-length material released and which is hard to find on any format in our country. Recommended!

Martwa Aura - Morbus Animus (Under the Sign of Garazel 2020)

Minęło trochę czasu od ostatniej recenzji, no ale znów jest o czym napisać więcej niż kilka słów. I autentycznie mnie to cieszy. Przyszedł czas na kolejny album Martwej Aury. Nie powiem, oczekiwałem go już od jakiegoś czasu, tym bardziej, że każdy z poprzednich materiałów dosłownie powalał, co tu dużo mówić. W przypadku "Morbus Animus" nie jest inaczej. Album nie zawiódł i ponownie zabiera nas na wyprawę w otchłanie cmentarnego, posępnego Black Metalu. Mamy tu nie tylko kapitalną przyprawiającą o ciary atmosferę, ale i takowe brzmienie i przestrzenne, potężne kompozycje. Praca gitar to odrębna sprawa i coś, co zasługuje tu na szczególne wyróżnienie i szacunek. Nie dość, że riffy wgniatają w glebę, tworzą miejscami fajne melodie, to znalazło się i miejsce na melancholijne wręcz pasaże, wybrzmiewające niczym w ogromnej jaskini. Mam tu na myśli chociażby ścianę gitar w "Ostatniej Gwieździe" oraz solową partię w "Świętej Zagładzie" (a właśnie, jakby się ktoś pytał, to teksty wszystkich utworów są oczywiście po polsku). No mnie to dosłownie rozwaliło! Możecie mówić, co chcecie, ale podobne Martwej Aurze zespoły, weźmy tu chociażby powszechnie uwielbianą Mgłę, niestety nie doganiają tego, co się dzieje na płycie "Morbus Animus". Jest to co prawda tylko trzydzieści pięć minut materiału, ale jest to tak dobre i wyczerpujące ten czas, że brak tutaj pytań. Nic, tylko słuchać! Martwa Aura poczyna sobie świetnie i życzę im kolejnych tak dobrych płyt, które za każdym razem będą podnosiły poprzeczkę do góry, bo ta autentycznie ją podniosła! Płyta miesiąca!

It's been a while since the last review, but again there's more to write more than a few words. And I really enjoy it. It's time for another Martwa Aura album. Indeed, I have been expecting it for some time, the more that each of the previous materials was literally kickass, what can I say. The "Morbus Animus" is no different. The album doesn't disappoint and once again takes us on a journey into the abyss of the funeral, gloomy Black Metal. We not only have here a great, shivering atmosphere, but also outstanding sound and spacious, powerful compositions. The work of guitars is a separate matter and something that deserves special mention and respect. Not only do the riffs squeeze you into the ground, create some cool melodies, but there is also a place for melancholic passages resonating like in a huge cave. I mean, for example, the guitar wall in "Ostatnia Gwiazda" and the solo part in "Święta Zagłada" (and if someone asks, the lyrics of all songs are of course in Polish). It literally blew me away! You can say what you want, but the bands similar to Martwa Aura, let's take the popular Mgła for example, unfortunately, do not catch up with what is happening on "Morbus Animus". It's only thirty-five minutes long, but it's so good and satisfying that there's no question here. Just listen! Martwa Aura is doing great and I wish them more and more albums that will raise the bar every time, because this one really has! The album of the month!

Czort - Apostoł (Under the Sign of Garazel 2020)

Kolejny znakomity black metalowy materiał tego roku, idący ramię w ramię z najnowszym dziełem The Devil's Sermon. "Apostoł" to drugi pełny album od Czorta. Po debiucie zespół nie pozwolił o sobie zapomnieć, gdzieś tam w głowie tliła się ta muzyka razem z oczekiwaniem na to, co pokażą wraz z kolejną płytą. Nie zawiodłem się! Dostajemy solidny kawałek atmosferycznego Black Metalu z polskimi tekstami, notabene bardzo dobrymi, i... sporą dozą przebojowości! Jest tu dużo mrocznych, acz melodyjnych riffów i motywów, które momentalnie wrzynają się w pamięć, nie tylko ich melodia, ale i tekst. Sztandarowymi są tutaj bez wątpienia "Manifest Niepodległej Woli" oraz "Grając w Szachy z Diabłem". Co więcej, moim zdaniem są to dwie najlepsze kompozycje Czorta z tych, które do tej pory stworzyli. Pierwszy odsłuch i zapamiętałem je z marszu. Poza cechami typowymi dla Black Metalu i gdzieniegdzie przebiegającymi echami starej sceny, Czort stworzył swój własny styl, który "Apostoł" ugruntowuje. Łączy mrok, bluźnierstwo i ekstremę z odrobiną melodii, przebojowości, momentami nostalgii, co czyni tę muzykę bogatą w brzmienia i emocje. W sumie coś takiego udało się kiedyś naszej legendzie, czyli zespołowi Kat. Produkcyjnie, jak na zespół podziemny, jest naprawdę na wysokim poziomie, co ma również swój wkład w odbiór płyty. Another great Black Metal material this year, going hand in hand with the latest work of The Devil's Sermon. "Apostoł" is the second full album from Czort. After the debut, the band did not let the public forget about themselves, somewhere in the head this music was smoldering along with the expectation of what they will show along with the next album. I was not disappointed! We get a solid piece of atmospheric Black Metal with Polish lyrics, very good ones, and... quite a bit of a hit-like! There are a lot of dark, but melodic riffs and pieces that immediately sunk into memory, not only their melody, but also the lyrics. The most sigificant tracks here are undoubtedly the "Manifest Niepodległej Woli" and "Grając w Szachy z Diabłem". What's more, in my opinion these are two of Czort's best compositions from those they have created so far. The first listening and I remembered them immediately. In addition to the features of typical Black Metal and echoes of the old scene, Czort created their own style, which "Apostoł" consolidates. It combines darkness, blasphemy and extreme with a bit of melody, clarity, moments of nostalgia, which make this music rich in sounds and emotions. All in all, something like that has once been achieved by our Polish legend, Kat. Production, as for an underground band, is really at a high level, which also contributes to the listening of the record. We get forty-seven minutes of addictive material that people in the subject will definitely not get bored of, and I think that it will not go unnoticed and without attention. It is too good to ignore it. I highly recommend it! You have to check it out!

Szron - Frost Eternal (Under the Sign of Garazel 2020)

Po raz pierwszy na CD pojawia się demo Szron - "Frost Eternal", jeden z najlepszych polskich black metalowych materiałów, jakie pojawiły się na scenie po 2000 roku. "Frost Eternal" to prymitywny, surowo brzmiący Black Metal zagrany w stylu wczesnych lat 90. i nasuwający skojarzenia z Darkthrone, debiutem Immortal czy nawet wczesnymi płytami Burzum. Słychać tu też wyraźnie zespoły z polskiej sceny, takie jak Veles, Fullmoon czy Infernum, nawet nie wiem, czy nie bardziej niż Norwegów. Materiał został pierwotnie wydany jako split z Hateful w 2001/2002 roku. Dla tych, dla których będzie to coś nowego, aczkolwiek nie wiem, czy się tacy znajdą, będzie zdawał się być żywcem wyciągnięty z jakiegoś 1992-94 roku. Klimat i atmosfera tamtych dni i materiałów jest tu wszechobecna, łącznie z brzmieniem. Widać, że Panów Beherita i Demona nie interesuje ani melodyjność, ani nowoczesne podejście do grania, ani dobra produkcja. I dobrze! Bo w ich sztuce, w tej muzyce o to właśnie chodzi! Co tu dużo mówić, Szron to ekipa, która tworzyła i nadal tworzy Black Metal z wyczuciem i konsekwencją, zgodnie z jego pierwotnymi założeniami. Zawsze jest to oldschoolowe granie pełną gębą!
Wznowienie niniejszego dema (w przyszłym roku minie dwadzieścia lat od jego wydania) popełnione przez Under the Sign of Garazel wierne jest estetyce ze splitu i późniejszemu wznowieniu na kasecie (ta sama okładka). W środku są tylko inne foty, są teksty utworów, no i poszerzona warstwa graficzna na potrzebę pełnej poligrafii do CD. Wszystko w mroźnym, chłodnym i ponurym klimacie, jaki pasuje do tych nagrań. Wyszło naprawdę solidne wydawnictwo i nic, tylko czekać na winyl, mający ukazać się nieco później oraz koszulki od Ancient Dead. Tymczasem - tym, co znają, a nie mają, polecam zakup, a tym, którzy jeszcze materiału nie słyszeli, nadrobić szybko zaległości w temacie!

The reissue of this demo (next year will be twenty years from its release) issued by Under the Sign of Garazel is loyal to split aesthetics and to the cassette reissue that came out later (same cover). Inside there are only other photos, there are lyrics, and an expanded graphic layer for the need of full CD printing. Everything in a cold and gloomy climate that matches these recordings. A really solid release came out and there is nothing left but to wait for vinyl (to be released later) and t-shirts from Ancient Dead. In the meantime, I recommend grabing the copy for those having only the tape, and to those who haven't heard the material yet, to catch up quickly!

Nurt Ognia - Nurt Ognia (Putrid Cult / Under the Sign of Garazel 2020)

Nie spodziewam się, że wiele osób doceni fenomen tej płyty. Nurt Ognia to nowy projekt Upiora z Xarzebaal. Na niniejszym materiale daje on upust muzyce przepełnionej po brzegi chaosem, dźwiękowym szaleństwem spowitym w obskurne, piwniczne, niczym nieokiełznane brzmienie. Nie oczekujcie tu melodii, poprawnej produkcji, porządku. Tego tutaj nie ma! Ale jest w tym metoda, metoda i cały urok. Brudne, trzeszczące gitary, surowa, dudniąca w tle perkusja, opętańcze wokale - to domena tego krążka. Do tego dochodzą okazyjne, atmosferyczne zwolnienia przepełnione echem i pojedynczymi, osobliwymi dźwiękami. No czyste zło i szaleństwo! Mimo tego wszystkiego, da się również wyczytać w tym kotle piekielnym ciekawe, smoliste riffy. Klimat jest tu jedyny w swoim rodzaju. On this material, he gives us music filled totally with chaos, sound of madness packed in a dingy, basement-like sound. Don't expect melodies, proper production or order here. It's not here! But there is a method, a method and all charm in it. Dirty, crackling guitars, raw drums in the background, possessed vocals are the domain of this album. You can also find occasional, atmospheric passages filled with echoes and single, peculiar sounds there. Pure evil and madness! Despite all this, you can also find interesting, tarry riffs in this infernal cauldron. The atmosphere here is unique. Cover without a logo, simple but powerful graphics, zero song titles or their content. "Nurt Ognia" is probably the most extreme piece of Black Metal I have heard so far. At the beginning it was Abruptum, then for a long time nothing, Revenge, Nyogthaeblisz, Xarzebaal, and now Nurt Ognia. If you like all these bands plus such groups as Havohej or Woods of Belial, then you have to give this album a chance. It is very inapproachable at first, but it gains with each listening and attention given to it. It is less than twenty-seven minutes which lead to the darkest, most perverted corners of Black Metal. For me it is a damn original work, honest to the core which spits in the face of any trends or correctness. I encourage you to check it out!

Dagorath/Occultum/Mordhell/Czort - Under the White Flame split (Under the Sign of Garazel / Only Death is Real 2019)

Chyba - jak do tej pory - najbardziej kompleksowy split, jaki miałem w łapach. Aż cztery grupy i to same dobre ekipy z naszego Black Metalowego podziemia. "Under the White Flame" to sojusz Dagorath, Occultum, Mordhell oraz Czorta. Każda z grup przygotowała na to wydawnictwo premierowe kawałki. No i jest tu czego słuchać, bez dwóch zdań. Obok splitu Beastcraft/Black Altar, to chyba najlepsze tego typu wydawnictwo, jakie słyszałem od dwóch lat. A więc do rzeczy. Dagorath i Occultum prezentują nam bardziej rozbudowane numery, pełne klimatu, odrobiny melodii, ociekające rytualną, mroczną atmosferą. Oba zespoły, co nie nagrają, to jestem pod wrażeniem wyczucia i łączenia tylu fajnych cech i wyciągania z Black Metalu samej jego najlepszej esencji. Brzmienie obu grup jest potężne, momentami wręcz przytłaczające swoją mocą. Kompozycje są zbalansowane, nie brakuje tu zarówno kanonad, jak i tych wolniejszych pasaży. Occultum, mimo że podobne, ma nieco więcej z tej rytualności i klimatu, jest bardziej płynne, więcej tu melodii. Dagorath jest jakby odrobinę bardziej nastawiony na surowszą, mniej subtelną formę. Potem wchodzi bezlitosny Mordhell i rozpętuje istną burzę bluźnierstwa i chaosu. Ich granie skierowane jest w Black/Thrashowym kierunku, jest bardziej bezpośrednie i organiczne, co wyróżnia ich spośród pozostałych grup na splicie. Jest obskurnie, dziko i bez najmniejszych kompromisów. Na koniec materiał od Czorta, który jest tą majestatyczną częścią splitu - poważną, miarową, na swój sposób dostojną dawką mroku. Sporo klimatu robią tu dosyć wyraźnie wykrzyczane polskie teksty, co nie jest znowu tak powszechną w temacie praktyką.

Na chwilę obecną śmiało można ten split potraktować jako wizytówkę polskiego podziemnego Black Metalu - "Nie wiesz, nie znasz? Odpal sobie to, na tym krążku jest niemal wszystko, co najlepsze!". Jeden z tegorocznych "must have", bezapelacyjnie!

"Under the White Flame" is an alliance of Dagorath, Occultum, Mordhell ​​and Czort. Each group has prepared premiere compositions for this release. And there is something to listen to, without a doubt. Alongside the Beastcraft/Black Altar split, it's probably the best release of this kind I've heard in two years. So, to the point. Dagorath and Occultum present us with more elaborate tracks, full of climate, a bit of melody, dripping with a ritual, dark atmosphere. Both bands, no matter what they record, make me feel impressed with the sense and combination of so many cool features and extracting best essence of Black Metal. The sound of both groups is powerful, sometimes overwhelming with its power. The compositions are balanced, there are both cannonades and some slower passages. Occultum, although similar, has a bit more of this ritual climate, it is more fluid, there are more melodies here. Dagorath is a bit more focused on a primitive, less subtle form. Then enters the merciless Mordhell ​​and unleashes a real storm of blasphemy and chaos. Their stuff is turned towards the Black/Thrash direction, it is more straightforward and organic, which distinguishes them from other groups on the split. It is obscure, wild and without the slightest compromise. Finally, the material from Czort, which is the majestic part of the split - a serious, steady, dignified dose of darkness in its own way. Quite a lot of climate here is thanks to clearly shouted Polish lyrics, which is not such a common practice in this subject.

At the moment, this split can easily be treated as a showcase of Polish underground Black Metal - "You are not familiar, you don't know it? Check this out, this album has almost all the best!". One of this year's "must-haves", definitely!

Nadsvest - Kolo Ognja i Zeleza (Under the Sign of Garazel 2019)

Jeden z krążków najbogatszych w zróżnicowanie wpływów, jaki usłyszałem w tym roku. Aż głowa mała, ile można znaleźć na nim odniesień. Taka jest właśnie debiutancka EPka Nadsvest, serbsko - nowozelandzkiego projektu, łączącego Black Metal z mrocznym, serbskim folklorem. Wypada to kapitalnie! Czyste, jakby barytonowe, chóralne zaśpiewy, pogłos, elementy epickości i melodii połączone z agresją i żywiołem Black Metalu. Z jednej strony atakują nas elementy stylistyki takich zespołów jak Darkthrone, Satyricon, 1349, Mayhem, a z drugiej Wędrujący Wiatr, Malokarpatan, Over the Voids czy Arkona. Nawet jakieś echa Bathory da się tu znaleźć miejscami. Zostało to wszystko połączone misternie i z pomysłem, dając naprawdę oryginalny i wręcz porywający efekt. Dobre brzmienie tylko te walory uwydatnia. Szacun należy się nie tylko samemu zespołowi, ale też wydawcy - Under the Sign of Garazel. Mieli nosa, że będzie to coś wyjątkowego i się nie pomylili. Myślę, że "Kolo Ognja i Zeleza" porwie dosłownie każdego entuzjastę tych nieco bardziej ekstremalnych brzmień i podziemnej sceny. Te cztery utwory, jakie składają się na ów materiał, to zapowiedź bardzo obiecującego grania, które ma szansę zdobyć spore grono fanów i odbić się echem po scenie na nieco dłużej. One of the most complex records - when it comes to the diversity of influences - that I've heard this year. It's surprising how many references can be found on it. This is the debut EP of Nadsvest, a Serbian-New Zealand project combining Black Metal with dark, Serbian folklore. It's great! Pure, baritone-like, choral chants, reverb, elements of epicness and melody combined with aggression and fury of Black Metal. On the one hand, we are stormed by elements of the style of bands such as Darkthrone, Satyricon, 1349, Mayhem, and on the other - Wędrujący Wiatr, Malokarpatan, Over the Voids or Arkona. Even Bathory's echoes can be found here in some places. It was all combined intricately and with an idea, giving a really original and even thrilling effect. Good sound only enhances these qualities. Respect is due not only to the band itself, but also to the publisher - Under the Sign of Garazel. At some point they knew that it would be something special and they were not mistaken. I think that "Kolo Ognja and Zeleza" will literally capture every enthusiast of these slightly more extreme sounds and the underground scene. Four songs that make up this material are a preview of a very promising stuff, which has a chance to win a large group of fans and be heard throughout the scene for a little longer. I wish them that and look forward to the full album.
