The Devil's Sermon - Czarna Jaźń (Putrid Cult 2021)

Żałuję, że nie wystarczyło mi czasu, aby napisać o tej płycie jeszcze w 2021 roku. Jest szansa, że pojawiłby się w moim TOP 5 za ubiegły rok. Drugi pełny album The Devil's Sermon miał swoją premierę się w tym samym czasie co nowe Demonic Temple, także konkurencję miał srogą. Mimo mojej bardzo pochlebnej opinii o konkurentach, kolejny krążek The Devil's Sermon oceniam bardzo wysoko i okazuje się być ich najlepszym materiałem nagranym do tej pory. Zespół już w pełni rozwinął swój styl i zaserwował kawał znakomitego, mistycznego black metalu. Intensywne, soczyste brzmienie, znakomita atmosfera to bez wątpienia atuty sztuki The Devil's Sermon. Ilekroć obcuję z ich muzyką, to mam wrażenie brania udziału w jakimś obrzędzie, diabelskim konwencie, który poza agresją, ma do przekazania również jakiś pierwiastek duchowy, coś ponad samą muzykę. To rytuał mroku, pełen emocji, furii, ale i swoistej refleksyjności. Płyta to lekko ponad pół godziny materiału i, wraz z intrem, cztery pełne, długie kompozycje. Najbardziej czarują tu utwory "Poskręcany w Fałdy" (mój absolutny faworyt z płyty) oraz "Diabelski Orszak". Są pełne oryginalnego klimatu, partii mocnych, agresywnych, które przeplatają się z budującymi atmosferę instrumentalnymi pasażami. Coś naprawdę znakomitego! "Czarna Jaźń" bez wątpienia wciągnie każdego entuzjastę black metalu i już nie wypuści ze swych okowów. Kto nie zna jeszcze twórczości The Devil's Sermon, a pójdzie za moją radę i posłucha nowej ich płyty, to z całą pewnością sięgnie również po debiut oraz Epkę. Gwarantuję!

I wish I had enough time to write about this album in 2021. There is a chance that it would have appeared in my TOP 5 for the last year. The second full album by The Devil's Sermon was released at the same time as the new Demonic Temple, so the competition was fierce. Despite my very flattering opinion about competitors, I rate the next record of The Devil's Sermon very highly and it turns out to be their best material recorded so far. The band has already fully developed their style and served a piece of excellent, mystical black metal. Intense, solid sound, great atmosphere are undoubtedly the strengths of The Devil's Sermon. Whenever I interact with their music, I have the impression of taking part in some rite, a devil's convention, which, apart from aggression, also has a spiritual element to convey, something beyond the music itself. It is a ritual of darkness, full of emotions, fury, but also a kind of reflection. The album is slightly over half an hour of material and, together with the intro, consists of four full, long compositions. The most charming here are the songs "Poskręcany w Fałdy" (my absolute favorite from the album) and "Diabelski Orszak". They are full of original atmosphere, strong, aggressive parts that are intertwined with instrumental passages that build the atmosphere. Something really great! "Czarna Jaźń" will undoubtedly attract every black metal enthusiast and will not let go of its shackles anymore. Those who do not know the works of The Devil's Sermon yet, and will follow my advice and listen to their new album, will certainly reach for their debut and EP as well. I guarantee!

The Devil's Sermon - Rydwany Ognia (Putrid Cult 2020)

Najnowsza EPka od The Devil's Sermon to najlepszy, powtarzam, najlepszy black metalowy materiał, jaki pojawił się od początku 2020 roku! Świetnie brzmiący, klimatyczny i autentycznie porywający w tym swoim diabelstwie. Ma się ochotę odpalać go wciąż od nowa. Materiał otwiera cover Bathory "Chariots of Fire" (z polskim tekstem!), a potem mamy trzy autorskie kompozycje, również z tekstami w ojczystym języku. Cover, co trzeba przyznać, wyszedł przednio. Z nowym aranżem, dodatkiem skrzypiec na wstępie, sprawia wrażenie, jakby był dziełem zespołu, a to już coś. Reszta kompozycji muzycznie przypomina mi te trochę starsze dokonania Samael ("W Otchłani na Swoim Miejscu"), Marduk czy Gorgoroth, ale to bardzo luźne podobieństwa. Myślę, że The Devil's Sermon wyrobił sobie już swoje własne brzmienie i charakter, a "Rydwany Ognia" tylko mnie w tym utwierdzają. Poza typowo złowieszczymi, surowymi partiami jest w tym jakaś doza melodii oraz bardzo wyraziste riffy. No i ta estetyka... Perfekcyjnie korespondująca z muzyką. Za okładkę EPki też należą się oddzielne wyrazy uznania. Robert A. von Ritter wykonał tu kawał świetnej roboty!
Cieszy mnie fakt, że nasza scena podziemna wciąż może pochwalić się wydawnictwami o tak niezaprzeczalnej jakości jak "Rydwany Ognia" i tak skutecznie zmiatać konkurencję. Pamiętam, jak obiecujący był debiut The Devil's Sermon i z jaką ciekawością wyglądałem tego, jakim materiałem nas uraczą w przyszłości. Niniejsza EPka nie zawiodła i podniosła poprzeczkę jeszcze wyżej. Podsumowując, o to w tej sztuce chodzi i tak należy to robić! Kawał niesamowitego Black Metalu!

The latest EP from The Devil's Sermon is the best, I repeat, the best black metal material that appeared since the beginning of 2020! Great sounding, atmospheric and genuinely captivating in its devilishness. You want to play it again and again. The material opens with a cover of "Chariots of Fire" by Bathory (with Polish lyrics!), and then we have three original compositions, also with lyrics in Polish language. Cover, what has to be admitted, turn out magnificent. With a new arrangement, the addition of a violin at the beginning, and as if this piece was the band's own composition, and that's something. The rest of the piece musically reminds me of the slightly older achievements of Samael ("W Otchłani na Swoim Miejscu"), Marduk or Gorgoroth, but these are very loose similarities. I have the impression that The Devil's Sermon has already developed its own sound and character, and "Rydwany Ognia" only confirms this. In addition to the typically ominous, raw parts, there is some dose of melody and very visible riffs. And this aesthetics... Perfectly corresponds with music. The EP cover also needs some serious compliments. Robert A. von Ritter has done a great job here!
I am glad that our underground scene can still crow about records of such undeniable quality as "Rydwany Ognia" and so effectively sweep away the competition. I remember how promising The Devil's Sermon debut was and with what curiosity I looked forward to the material they would present us in the future. This EP did not disappoint and raised the bar even higher. To sum up, that's what this art is all about and that's how it should be done! A piece of amazing Black Metal!

The Devil's Sermon - Nie ma boga nad Diabła (Putrid Cult 2019)

Esencjonalny i intrygujący Black Metal z polskimi tekstami. Płyta z jednej strony nieodkrywająca nowych rejonów, ale potrafiąca oczarować swoją unikalną atmosferą i ładunkiem emocjonalnym, swoim wydźwiękiem. Logo grupy przypomina swym konceptem logo Darkthrone, lecz nie są to te rejony. To Black Metal totalnie naszej sceny, chociaż osobnicy tworzący ten zespół wykuwają swą sztukę w Anglii. W jakiś sposób są to klimaty bliskie Mgle, Dagorath, Czortowi, ale z mrokiem i agresją Death Like Mass i Cultes Des Ghoules. Płyta w swym przekazie dedykowana jest samemu Rogatemu jako symbolowi buntu i tryumfu wolnej woli. Ma w sobie coś z mrocznej poezji, jaką kiedyś parało się chociażby Taranis czy Profanum. Z pewnością nie jest to płyta, której brakuje własnego charakteru. Potrafi zatrzymać słuchacza na dłużej i nie zanudzić, zachęcić do powrotu za jakiś czas. To pierwszy album w dorobku The Devil's Sermon, a już szykuje się sztuka, która predysponuje do pójścia swą własną niepodległą ścieżką, nie oglądając się na trendy panujące na scenie. Bardzo ciekawi mnie, co pokaże kolejny materiał, czy pociągnie klimat i struktury, jakie tu zastaliśmy, te tnące gitarowe pasaże, zajadłe wokale i niedającą wytchnąć sekcję rytmiczną. Myślę, że tak się stanie, że tego nie zabraknie, podobnie jak przesłania niniejszego krążka, bo przecież "Nie ma boga nad Diabła".

Essential and intriguing Black Metal with Polish lyrics. The album, on the one hand, does not reveal new areas, but is able to enchant with its unique atmosphere and emotions, its overtones. The group's logo resembles the one of Darkthrone, but this is not this kind of Black Metal. This is the one totally of Polish scene character, although the individuals forming this band forge their art in England. Somehow these are climates close to Mgła, Dagorath, Czort, but with darkness and aggression of for example Death Like Mass or Cultes Des Ghoules. The album in its message is dedicated to the Horned one himself as a symbol of rebellion and triumph of free will. It has something of the dark poetry that Taranis or Profanum once used to express themselves. It is certainly not an album that lacks its own character. It can keep the listener for a longer time and not bore him, encourage him to return in a while. This is the first album among The Devil's Sermon's achievements, and their art predisposes to follow its own independent path, without looking at the trends on the scene. I am very interested in what the next material will show, whether it will attract by the climate and structures we found here, these cutting guitar passages, fierce vocals and the rhythmical section that won't let you breathe. I think it will be like that and not fade away, just like the message of this album, because "There is no god above the Devil".
