Fallen Temple ma w swoim katalogu kilka perełek wydawniczych i w tym roku do tych najlepszych dołącza szwedzki Wan ze swoim nowym albumem "Antichristian Douchebgs". Wan to zespół, który zdążył już okrzepnąć na scenie i od lat wykuwa swój bluźnierczy black metal, do którego zaszczepia elementy thrashu i punka. I tak, ten styl grania albo się kocha, albo nienawidzi. Jest prosto, z energią i bezpośredniością, według utartych już reguł. Wszystko brzmi jak Pan Diabeł przykazał. Wokale, znakomite riffy, te przeplatające się inspiracje okolone cały czas duchem Pierwszej Fali. Jest w tym coś z naszego Mordhell, jest późne Carpathian Forest, a nawet jakieś punkty zbieżne ze szwedzkim War, czyli niegdysiejszymi kolegami ze sceny. "Antichristian Douchebgs" jest z gatunku tych płyt, które zdobywają upodobanie słuchaczy swoją formą, wiernością stylowi, konsekwencją, no i właśnie tym bezpośrednim podejściem do grania metalu. Tu nikt nie popisuje się umiejętnościami, nie szuka "pomysłowych rozwiązań", nie sili się na melodyjki, które mają zebrać jak największe grono słuchaczy. Wan i ich granie skierowane jest do tych, którzy szukają w metalu energii, konkretnej estetyki i nawiązań. Dlatego też ten album tak bardzo do mnie przemówił i w chwili obecnej nie wychodzi z odtwarzacza. Dla mnie materiał z tych do, których się wraca. Polecam!

Wan is a band that has already established itself on the scene and has been forging their blasphemous black metal for years, to which they instill elements of thrash and punk. And yes, this style of playing is either loved or hated. It is simple, with energy and directness, according to the already well-established rules. Everything sounds like the Lord the Devil has commanded. Vocals, great riffs, these intertwining inspirations surrounded all the time with the spirit of the First Wave. There is something from Polish Mordhell ​​in it, there is the late Carpathian Forest, and even some points coinciding with the Swedish War, i.e. former stage colleagues. "Antichristian Douchebgs" is one of those albums which the listeners like for their form, faithfulness to style, consistency, and this direct approach to playing metal. Here no one shows off his extra skills, does not look for "inventive solutions", he does not try to use melodies that are written to gathered as many listeners as possible. Wan and their playing is aimed at those who are looking for energy, specific aesthetics and references in metal. That's why this album appeal to me so much, and it's not coming out of the CD player right now. For me, material from those you come back to. Recommended!

Huoripukki - Ikuinen Kamppailu (Fallen Temple 2021)

Pierwszy pełny album fińskiego Huoripukki zapowiadany był na koniec lata tego roku, jednak premiera przeciągnęła się do jesieni. Zdziwiło mnie gdy w booklecie do płyty wyczytałem, ze została nagrana jeszcze w 2019 - trochę czekała na wydanie. Niemniej wyczekiwane "Ikuinen Kamppailu" wreszcie do mnie trafiło i zabieram się do podzielenia się z wami wrażeniami. Pierwsze, co dało się odczuć podczas słuchania płyty, to progres brzmieniowy i więcej czystego, niemal niczym nie zmąconego death metalu. Blackowe domieszki są już daleko w tle. Miejscami riffy i rytm na płycie oscylują wokół bardzo nośnych, prawie (zaznaczam - prawie!) heavy metalowych patentów, jakie można było usłyszeć na płytach Dismember, aby za chwilę przejść w barbarzyńską nawałnicę. Połączenie chwytliwości i brutalności na "Ikuinen Kamppailu" dało bardzo fajny efekt, płyta nie jest tendencyjna i wciąga w ten swój oldschoolowy klimat. Może Huoripukki nie jest jakoś bardzo płodne wydawniczo jeżeli chodzi o pełne materiały, ale to, co słyszałem na demówkach i EPkach powstających od roku 2008, było zawsze wysokiej jakości death/black metalem. I tak jest i teraz, a nawet lepiej. Zespół miał czas wyrobić swój styl, brzmienie i uraczył nas naprawdę bardzo dobrym materiałem, także zostałem tu muzycznie zaspokojony z nawiązką. Wniosek jest jeden - fińska scena death metalu, wciąż ma się dobrze! Zespołowi Huoripukki życzę częstszego wydawania pełniaków i tak dobrych jak ten pierwszy.

The first full-length album of Finnish Huoripukki was announced for the end of this summer, but the premiere lasted until autumn. I was surprised when I read in the album's booklet that it was recorded in 2019 - the album waited a bit for release. Nevertheless, the long-awaited "Ikuinen Kamppailu" finally arrived and I'm going to share my impressions with you. The first thing you could feel while listening to the album was the sound progress and more clean, almost uninterrupted death metal. Black metal elements are already far in the background. In some places the riffs and rhythm on the album oscillate around very strong, almost heavy metal patents (I repeat - almost!), which could be heard on Dismember albums, only to go into a barbaric storm in a moment. The combination of catchiness and brutality on "Ikuinen Kamppailu" gave a very nice effect, the album is not biased and draws you into its oldschool atmosphere. Maybe Huoripukki isn't very prolific in terms of full material, but what I heard on demos and EPs starting from 2008 was always high quality death/black metal. And it is so now, and even better. The band had time to develop their style and sound and treated us with really good material, so I was musically satisfied here, with a vengeance. There is only one conclusion - the Finnish death metal scene is still doing well! I wish Huoripukki more frequent releases and as good as this first one.

 

Apostasy - Death Return (Fallen Temple 2021)

Wracam po dłuższej przerwie z kolejną recką wartego uwagi materiału. Chilijskie Apostasy wraca z trzecią pełną płytą w swoim dorobku. Od czasu ich powrotu na scenę w 2013 wydali kilka mniejszych materiałów i jeden album, który był naprawdę solidny, pełen energii i nowych pomysłów. Tak samo jest w przypadku "Death Return", a nawet lepiej. Jest tu masa chwytliwych riffów, płyta jest bardzo dobrze zmiksowana, brzmienie jest soczyste. W ich black/thrashowej estetyce to bardzo ważne elementy. Płyta musi porywać, mieć odpowiednią siłę rażenia, kawałki nie powinny się ze sobą zlewać. Ekipa Apostasy postarała się, żeby tak nie było. Nastąpiła też zmiana za perkusją i dołączenie drugiego gitarzysty w osobie młodego Javiera Silvy (nie jestem pewien, ale zdaje się, że to syn Cristiana Silvy, basisty/wokalisty i lidera Apostasy), który udzielał się już na demach z 2020. Ten zastrzyk świeżej krwi bardzo posłużył zespołowi. Apostasy nadal podąża ścieżką inspirowaną głównie nieświętą trójcą teutońskiego thrashu jakim jest Sodom, Destruction oraz Kreator. Na "Death Return" mam wrażenie, że zbliżyli się miejscami do tej bardziej organicznej, pierwotnej formy thrashowego grania, nieco mniej kombinując, a bardziej zdając się na żywioł. Jednakże znalazło się się tu trochę miejsca na odrobinę bardziej finezyjne rozwiązania, jak to ma miejsce w chociażby "The Night" czy "Obey the Antichrist". No i o czym warto wspomnieć to fakt, że sporo z numerów na płycie to kompozycje rozbudowane, trwające więcej niż standardowe cztery minuty. Widać, że się panowie napracowali, wena twórcza jest. Chcę też dodać, że ten materiał to obecnie najlepsza pozycja w katalogu Fallen Temple. Szacun dla Dawida za współpracę z zespołem i wydanie tego materiału. Bardzo zachęcam was do posłuchania!

I am coming back after a long break with another review of noteworthy material. Chilean Apostasy is back with a third full album in its discography. Since their return to the scene in 2013, they have released some smaller materials and one album that was really solid, full of energy and new ideas. It's the same with "Death Return", or even better. There is a lot of catchy riffs here, the album is very well mixed, the sound is thin. These are very important elements in their black/thrash aesthetics. The record must be thrilling, have the appropriate power, the compositions should not sound the same. The group made sure that thing will go that way. There was also a change behind the drums and the addition of a second guitarist in the person of the young Javier Silva (not sure, but seems to be the son of Cristian Silva, bassist/vocalist and leader of Apostasy) who has already been with the band on the 2020 demos. This shot of fresh blood. has served the group a lot. Apostasy continues to follow a path mainly inspired by the unholy trinity of Teutonic thrash such as Sodom, Destruction and Kreator. On "Death Return" I have the impression that they are somewhat closer to this more organic, primal form of thrash, a bit less fiddling and more relying on the energy itself. However, there is some room for a bit more sophisticated solutions, as is the case in, for example, "The Night" or "Obey the Antichrist". And what is worth mentioning is the fact that many of the tracks on the album are complex compositions, lasting more than the standard four minutes. You can see that the gentlemen have worked hard, there is a creative spirit. I also want to add that this material is currently the best one in the Fallen Temple catalog. Respect to Dawid for working with the band and publishing this material. I strongly encourage you to check it out!

Hell Trepanner - Macabre Smell of Rot (Fallen Temple 2020)

Swąd truchła, siarki i wszelkich innych pochodnych pachnideł bije od muzyki Hell Trepanner na kilometr. Słyszałem w swoim życiu niezliczoną ilość materiałów w temacie, ale bardzo rzadko natrafiałem na tak duszny i złowieszczy materiał w tym gatunku. To już nie tylko sam oldschool w temacie, ale i towarzysząca mu niebagatelna, cmentarna, przesiąknięta złem atmosfera. "Macabre Smell of Rot" to kompilacja nagrań z prób oraz ostatniego splitu, na jakim udzielił się ten zespół. Od razu powiem, że nie ma tu słabego numeru, po prostu nie. Wywaliłbym tylko intro "Voices from the Abyss" (to sterta bliżej niezidentyfikowanych hałasów, od których tylko głowa boli), jakie poprzedza ich część na splicie z Deshumanized i mamy perfekcyjne death metalowe wyziewy o piekielnym, a i grobowym charakterze. Drzemie w tym ten pierwotny, nieokiełznanych duch tej muzyki, echa ery demówek i wymian na taśmy. Dla bardzo wielu to wyznacznik jakości i oddania tej sztuce, i ja to niezmiernie szanuję i zawsze lubię słyszeć na nagraniach. Kto jeszcze Hell Trepanner nie zna, to "Macabre Smell of Rot" nadaje się w sam raz, aby sprawdzić sobie ten zespół!

Smell of corpse, sulfur and all other derivative scents surround Hell Trepanner's music from each side. I've heard countless materials in my life, but very rarely I came across such stuffy and ominous material in this genre. It is not only the oldschool in the subject, but also a substantial, cemetery-like, evil atmosphere imbued with it. "Macabre Smell of Rot" is a compilation of recordings from rehearsals and the last split that the band contributed to. I will say right away that there is no weak composition here, simply no. I would only dump the intro "Voices from the Abyss" (this is a pile of unidentified noises that only brings you headache), which precedes their part on the split with Deshumanized and we have a perfect Death Metal fumes of infernal and grave-like character. This original, unbridled spirit of this music, echoes of the era of demos and tapes exchanging is hidden in it. For many, it is a determinant of quality and devotion to this art, and I respect it and I always like to hear it on recordings. Who is not familliar with Hell Trepanner should start with "Macabre Smell of Rot", it is just right stuff to check out this band!

Vengeance Sorcery - In Oath to Torment, Unrelenting... (Fallen Temple 2020)

"In Oath to Torment, Unrelenting..." to zbiór wszystkich czterech dem, jakie wydało do tej pory Vengeance of Sorcery. W sumie dwadzieścia dwa utwory brudnego, surowego, smolistego, a za razem oldschoolowego Black Metalu utrzymanego przede wszystkim w wolnych i średnich tempach. Ogromnym atutem całości materiału jest jego organiczność, fajny rzężący bas (chyba nawet lekko przesterowany) oraz złowieszczy, rytualny klimat. Mimo surowości, jest też stosunkowo przejrzysty i sprawia wrażenie nagranego na setkę, może w istocie w każdym przypadku tak było. To Black Metal dla zwolenników takich zespołów i materiałów jak debiut Samael, Moenen of Xezbeth, Beherit czy Nekkrofukk, czyli gęstego, na ogół wolnego grania z domieszką Doom Metalu.

Oczywistym jest, że to żadne nihil novi, ale uważam ten projekt za czołówkę tego typu klimatów. Mojego ulubionego w temacie Nekkrofukk nie przeskakuje, ale naprawdę daje radę i w sumie cieszę się, że wyszło to na CD i mogłem się w pełni całą dyskografią zapoznać. Tym bardziej, że z odtwarzaniem kaset to już u mnie krucho.

Warto jeszcze wspomnieć, że stojący za Vengeance Sorcery Deathwalker odpowiedzialny jest również za takie projekty jak Nihil Invocation, Zpektraellotaen oraz Morgennebel, w których także tworzy w obrębie oldschoolowego, piwnicznego Black Metalu; z każdym warto się zapoznać.

Reasumując, polecam ową składankę każdemu zwolennikowi podziemnej sceny i Black Metalu w jego bardziej pierwotnej i topornej postaci, bez udziwnień i podążając za dawnymi tradycjami. No i  tym, dla których ważna jest odpowiednia atmosfera!

"In Oath to Torment, Unrelenting..." is a collection of all four demos that Vengeance of Sorcery has released so far. A total of twenty-two songs of dirty, raw, tarry, and also oldschool Black Metal kept primarily at slow and medium tempos. The great advantage of the whole material is its organic nature, nice thirsty bass (probably even slightly distorted) and an ominous, ritual atmosphere. Despite the austerity, it is also relatively transparent and gives the impression of being recorded live, maybe in every case it was like that. This is Black Metal for supporters of such bands and materials as the debut of Samael, Moenen of Xezbeth, Beherit or Nekkrofukk - that is, dense, generally slow stuff with an admixture of Doom Metal.

It is obvious that this is nihil novi, but I consider this project to be at the forefront of this type of playing. My favorite one in the subject - Nekkrofukk - is not dethroned here, but this one really does its work and all in all I am glad that it came out on CD, so I could fully experience the entire discography. All in all, I no longer have the opportunity to check out tapes the way I did in the past.

It is also worth mentioning that Deathwalker, the man behind Vengeance Sorcery, is also responsible for such projects as Nihil Invocation, Zpektraellotaen and Morgennebel, in which he also creates within the oldschool, basement-like Black Metal. It is worth getting familiar with each of them.

To sum up, I recommend this compilation to every fan of the underground scene and Black Metal in its more primitive and raw form, one without surprises and following the old traditions. And for whom the right atmosphere is essential!

Vonulfsreich - Hyperborean Hills (Fallen Temple 2020)

Kolejna z ostatnich nowości wydawniczych Fallen Temple i kolejny strzał w dziesiątkę! Przyznać trzeba, że w ostatnim czasie niemal każdy tytuł wydany przez tę wytwórnię to miłe zaskoczenie i kawał dobrego grania. Nie inaczej jest w przypadku Vonulfsreich. Co prawda "Hyperborean Hills" nie jest znowu taką nowością, bo trzy lata temu ukazał się już na winylu, ale swą kompaktową wersję święci właśnie teraz. Materiał jest naprawdę znakomity, na swój sposób oldschoolowy, chwytliwy, dający się zapamiętać, łączący w sobie cechy Darkthrone, Burzum oraz ogromne pokłady Celtic Frost z czasów "Morbid Tales". Niecałe czterdzieści minut "Hyperborean Hills" mija błyskawicznie i chce się odpalić te kawałki jeszcze raz. Jest to bardzo dobry przykład grania, które powinno spodobać się większości fascynatów starych brzmień i numerów, przy których nóżka sama chodzi. Ta muzyka jest szczera i prosta, ale w tym właśnie tkwi jej fenomen. Mimo iż płyta trzyma styl, jest spójna w swej estetyce, to się nie nudzi nawet przez minutę. Różnorodność fajnych riffów nie opuszcza nas z każdym kolejnym numerem na płycie. To po prostu kawał dobrego grania, do którego nie ma jak się przyczepić. Nie odkrywcze, nie przeciera nowych ścieżek, ale jest świeże i z charakterem, mimo iż chyli czoła niemal wyłącznie przez starym graniem. Ja się zasłuchuję od dłuższego czasu i jeszcze będę. Polecam i zachęcam!

Another recent release from Fallen Temple and another hit in the bull's eye! You have to admit that recently almost every title released by this label is a pleasant surprise and a good piece of Metal. It is no different in the case of Vonulfsreich. It is true that "Hyperborean Hills" is not such a novelty, because three years ago it was already released on vinyl, but its compact version has its premiere now. The material is really excellent, oldschool, catchy and memorable art, combining Darkthrone, Burzum and a huge Celtic Frost layers from the period of "Morbid Tales". Less than forty minutes of "Hyperborean Hills" passes quickly and you want to play these tracks again. This is a very good example of playing which should appeal to most enthusiasts of old sounds and stuff to which makes your feet move. This music is honest and simple, but that's where its phenomenon lies. Although the album maintains the style, is consistent in its aesthetics, it doesn't make you bored for even a minute. The variety of cool riffs doesn't leave us with each successive number on the album. It's just a piece of good playing with no sign of a weak point. Not revealing, it doesn't tread new paths, but it is fresh and with character, even though it pays tribute almost exclusively to old music. I have been listening to it for a long time already and I will still do so. I recommend and encourage you to check it out!

Veneration - Thy Infernal (Fallen Temple 2020)

Tak oto wyłania nam się z podziemia kolejna oldschoolowa ekipa, która nie przebiera w środkach, a odważnie rusza naprzód, oddając hołd temu bardziej przed-norweskiemu Black Metalowi. Na debiucie tej indonezyjskiej ekipy usłyszycie echa takich grup jak Beherit, Sarcofago, Mortuary Drape czy Nifelheim. Jest to zatem coś w kontraście do ukazujących się obecnie nowości, które oscylują wokół stricte skandynawskich brzmień w temacie. Co mi się podoba, to fakt, że grupa nie stara się zwrócić na siebie zbytniej uwagi, jest poniekąd anonimowa. Nie znajdziecie o nich zbyt wielu informacji, ani ich stron w necie. Nadaje to ich muzyce pewnego dystansu; jeżeli chce się ich posłuchać, trzeba dotrzeć do nich samemu, nie zostanie to specjalnie podsunięte pod nos. Chyba że natrafi się na jakąś reckę, taką jak niniejsza.
"Thy Infernal" charakteryzuje się minimalistyczną, znikomą produkcją, surowością i bezkrytycznym zadurzeniem w prostocie przekazu. To jest po prostu najczystszy staroszkolny Black Metal, ni mniej, ni więcej. Ale jest w nim jakaś pierwotna siła, energia, która sprawia, że mimo iż jest to młode wino, smakuje jak stary dobry rocznik. Fajnym pomysłem było zawarcie w każdym z utworów słowa "Infernal" w jego tytule, tworząc dzięki temu swoisty koncept. Cieszy mnie, że co jakiś czas napotykam dobre zespoły, które żyją dla grania, dla swojej pasji, a reszta ich nie obchodzi. Robią swoje, wydają płytę i jeżeli jest to sztuka, która do Ciebie przemawia, to musisz poświęcić chwilę, żeby do niej dotrzeć. A jak już to zrobisz, satysfakcja jest murowana. I to jest, proszę Was, właśnie taki przypadek!

This is how another oldschool band emerges from the underground, one that by all means or foul and bravely moves forward, paying tribute to this more pre-Norwegian Black Metal. At the debut of this Indonesian act you will hear echoes of such groups as Beherit, Sarcofago, Mortuary Drape and Nifelheim. Therefore, it is something in contrast to the currently appearing novelties that revolve around strictly Scandinavian sounds in the subject. What I like is the fact that the group is not trying to get too much attention, it is somewhat anonymous. You won't find much information about them, nor their pages on the net. This gives their music a certain distance, if you want to listen to them you have to reach them yourself, it will not be served to you. Unless you come across a review like this one or so.
"Thy Infernal" is characterized by minimalism, negligible production, rawness and uncritical crush on the simplicity of the message. This is simply the purest old school Black Metal, no more, no less. But there is some primal strength in it, energy - even though it is a young wine, it tastes like a good old one. It was a nice idea to include the word "Infernal" in the title of each song, creating a peculiar concept. I am glad that from time to time I come across good bands that live for playing, for their passion, and the rest is not important to them. They do their own thing, release a record and if it is art that appeals to you, then you have to take a moment to reach it. And once you do, satisfaction is guaranteed. And this is, you guys, such a case!

Dead Dogs' Howl - Mausoleum of Confessed Thoughts (Fallen Temple 2020)

"Mausoleum of Confessed Thoughts" - ubiegłoroczne i pierwsze demo Dead Dog's Howl - doczekało się właśnie swojej wersji kompaktowej, zatem jest okazja, żeby trochę je przybliżyć, a zrobić to trzeba koniecznie. Dostajemy tu osiemnaście minut posępnego, surowego Black Metalu bardzo zbliżonego do greckiej szkoły grania spod znaku Necromantii / wczesnego Rotting Christ, zmieszanego dodatkowo z wyraźnymi doomowymi naleciałościami. Już po pierwszym odsłuchu, mimo iż jest to znana stylistyka, miałem wrażenie, że czegoś takiego jeszcze nie słyszałem, czegoś tworzącego tak niesamowicie cmentarny i niepokojący klimat. Byłem zaintrygowany do tego stopnia, że mógłbym pokusić się o stwierdzenie, że Dead Dog's Howl stworzyli na tym materiale swój własnych gatunek, osobistą niszę, którą można by określić mianem Crypt Metalu / Graveyard Metalu. Tak, atmosfera i dźwięki, jakie usłyszycie na tym demie aż się o to proszą. Hipnotyczny, transowy wydźwięk, mówiono-szeptane wokale, subtelna obecność klawiszowego tła oraz obskurne, acz wyraziste brzmienie tworzą iście grobowy pejzaż.
Materiał, choć krótki, wart jest uwagi, a i nabycia. Jest oryginalny, w pewnym stopniu nowatorski, a i czerpiący ze szlachetnych wzorców. Koniecznie sprawdźcie sobie "Mausoleum of Confessed Thoughts", szczerze polecam!

"Mausoleum of Confessed Thoughts" - last year's and first demo of Dead Dog's Howl - has just got its compact version, so there is an opportunity to present it a bit, and it has to be done without a doubt. We get here eighteen minutes of bleak, raw Black Metal very similar to the Greek school in the vein of Necromantia / early Rotting Christ stuff, mixed additionally with visible doom influences. Already after the first listening, despite the fact that it is a well-known style, I had the impression that I had not heard anything like that before, something creating  so incredibly graveyard and disturbing atmosphere. I was intrigued to the point that I could be tempted to say that Dead Dog's Howl created their own genre on this material, a personal niche that could be called Crypt Metal / Graveyard Metal. Yes, the atmosphere and sounds you'll hear on this demo are asking for it. Hypnotic, trance overtones, spoken/whispered vocals, the subtle presence of the keyboard background and obscure but expressive sound create a truly grave-like landscape.
The material, although short, is worth attention and purchase. It is original, somewhat innovative, and derived from noble patterns. Be sure to check out "Mausoleum of Confessed Thoughts", I highly recommend it!

Vermisst - Zmierzch Stalowej Ciemności (Fallen Temple 2020)

Po dwóch demach i splicie z Plaguespawn przyszedł czas na pierwszy szerszy materiał od Vermisst. EP "Zmierzch Stalowej Ciemności" kontynuuje black metalową krucjatę, jaką zespół rozpoczął 2 lata temu. Dalej serwuje nam sztukę inspirowaną takimi aktami jak Kvist, Taake czy stare poczynania Satyricon, Enslaved z czasów demówek oraz chociażby Manes. Jednym słowem, Norwegia się kłania. Nawet layout jest zrobiony w czerni i bieli, co również nawiązuje do tego, jak płytki z BM były niegdyś wydawane, jaka estetyka była tu charakterystyczna. Ale to nie wszystko. Panowie czerpią w swej muzyce nie tylko ze sceny skandynawskiej, ale i polskiej. Da się tu tak samo usłyszeć wczesny Graveland, North czy też Behemoth. Zdaje się, że zespół oddaje tu wyraźny hołd właśnie tym zespołom i ich wczesnym dokonaniom. Dostajemy tu pięć fajnych, staroszkolnych kompozycji. Dwie z nich - otwierający EP "Morkelokk" oraz zamykający "Det Skjulte", to puszczenie oka w kierunku Dungeon Synthu / Dark Ambientu, zwłaszcza ten zwieńczający EPkę. Jest to trochę w stylu tego, co pojawiało się na pierwszych trzech płytach Burzum. Jestem zaskoczony, bo Vermisst pokazał, że i w takim graniu świetnie by się odnalazł. Pozostałe trzy utwory to już czysto black metalowe twory (pragnę zaznaczyć, że z polskimi tekstami!). Surowo brzmiące, z odpowiednią atmosferą i duchem dawnych dni sceny. Słucha się tego wyśmienicie, mimo że to totalnie nic nowego. Ale czy musi? Wcale nie, jeżeli reprezentuje solidną jakość. Tak jest w przypadku Vermisst! Nie pozostaje mi nic innego, jak gorąco polecić wam tę płytkę!

After two demos and a split with Plaguespawn, it's time for the first wider material from Vermisst. EP "Zmierzch Stalowej Ciemności" continues the black metal crusade the band started 2 years ago. It also serves us an art inspired by such acts as Kvist, Taake or the old Satyricon, Enslaved from the demo period and even Manes. In a word, Norway rules here. Even the layout is made in black and white, which also refers to how BM records were once issued, what aesthetics were characteristic here. But it is not everything. The gentlemen draw in their music not only from the Scandinavian scene, but also from Polish one. Early Graveland, North or Behemoth can be heard here equally. The band seems to pay tribute to these bands and their early achievements. We get five cool, old-school compositions. Two of them - opening "Morkelokk" and closing "Det Skjulte", are winking towards Dungeon Synth / Dark Ambient, especially the ending one. It's a bit like what appeared on the first three Burzum albums. I'm surprised because Vermisst showed that they would perform good stuff in such style as well. The other three tracks are pure Black Metal (I would like to point out that they're with Polish lyrics!). Raw sounding, with the right atmosphere and the spirit of the old days of the scene. You can hear it perfectly, although it is nothing new. But must it be? Not at all if it represents solid quality. This is the case with Vermisst! There is nothing else for me to do but recommend this material to you!

Ruho - The Devout Thrum (Fallen Temple 2019)

Kolejna nowość z Finlandii, ale tym razem bez przesadnych fajerwerków. Ruho to przede wszystkim odniesienie do tego bardziej intensywnego, a mniej atmosferycznego oblicza Black Metalu, acz wciąż zakorzenionego w starociach z dalekimi echami Darkthrone. Na pięćdziesięciominutowy "The Devout Thrum" składają się cztery długie, niemal jednolite kompozycje. Ambitny krok, ale nic specjalnie nie wychodzi przed szereg. Album sprawia wrażenie tak spójnego, że czasem ciężko nie odnieść wrażenia, jakby słuchało się jednego długiego utworu zamiast czterech. Wyjątkiem jest "Devoured to Dust" (ostatni numer na płycie), w którym jest najwięcej urozmaiceń i charakterystyczny, jakby heavy metalowy riff w środku (oczywiście odpowiednio zagrany, aby nie odstawał od ogólnej estetyki). Trochę brakuje tej płycie oryginalności i czegoś, co bardziej wyróżniłoby ją na tle innych wydawnictw i zespołów. Niby jest trochę ciekawych melodii w tej całej energicznej kanonadzie oraz posępnego i niepokojącego klimatu, ale to jakoś za mało. Przynajmniej w moim odczuciu. Niemniej nie brakuje tu starannego, potężnego brzmienia (zwłaszcza perkusji) oraz warsztatu wykonawczego. Panowie naprawdę świetnie tu sobie radzą. Dzięki temu "The Devout Thrum" jest pod względem technicznym dobrą, solidną płytą. Tego odmówić jej nie można. Na razie wypada to ogólnie przeciętnie, acz jestem ciekaw, co Ruho zaprezentuje wraz z kolejnym, trzecim materiałem. Liczę na coś bardziej charakterystycznego, aby mogli się wyróżnić i bardziej zapaść w pamięć.

Another novelty from Finland, but this time without any special fireworks. Ruho is primarily a reference to this more intense and less atmospheric face of Black Metal, although still rooted in old stuff with distant echoes of Darkthrone. The 50-minute "The Devout Thrum" consists of four long, almost close-sounding compositions. An ambitious step, but nothing especially oversteps here. The album gives the impression of being so coherent that sometimes it is hard not to get the impression as if you were listening to one long song instead of four. The exception is "Devoured to Dust" (the last track on the album), which has the most variety and characteristic, heavy-metal-like riff in the middle (of course properly played so that it does not stand out from the general aesthetics). This album lacks originality a bit and something that would make it stand out more from other releases and bands. There are some interesting melodies in all this energetic canonade and a gloomy and disturbing climate, but this is not enough. At least in my opinion. However, there is no lack of proper, powerful sound (especially drums) and performance workshop. They really know what they are doing. Thanks to this "The Devout Thrum" is technically a good, solid record. You can't deny it. Generally, it's rather average, but I'm curious what Ruho will present with the next, third material. I look forward to something more characteristic so that they can stand out and become more recognisable.

Necrosadist/Witchfuck - Blasphemous Hell's Legions split (Fallen Temple 2019)

Rok 2019 obrodził na polskiej scenie podziemnej w sporo ciekawych i autentycznie udanych splitów. Nie wszystkich udało mi się więcej posłuchać, nie o wszystkich napisać. Jednym z tych, który wypadł w moich oczach najlepiej, jest Necrosadist/Witchfuck. Dlaczego? Pierwsze sprawa to zajebiste, organiczne brzmienie i w cholerę energii - nośne jest to, jak nie wiem co! Oba zespoły, jak dorwą się do grania, to plują ogniem, siarką i kapitalnymi riffami na prawo i lewo! Świetnie odnajdują się w swojej oldschoolowej Black/Thrash Metalowej mieszance podkutej punkowym brudem i zadziornością. Niby ten sam styl, a każdy z zespołów ma swój własny charakter i sposób grania. Zarówno Witchfuck, jak i Necrosadist zaserwowali tu po dwa premierowe numery. Słucha się tego jednym tchem i za moment robi powtórkę z rozrywki. To jest Metal w swojej najbardziej pierwotnej i bezkompromisowej postaci. Może nie być odkrywczy, może korzystać z dobrze już znanych rozwiązań i form, ale wciąż potrafi sponiewierać, trzymać jakość i poziom wykonawczy. Tym z pewnością mogą się obie grupy poszczycić. Na scenie nie są od wczoraj, może nie mają jeszcze sporego katalogu wydawniczego, ale jak już coś wyplują na ten łez padół, to szczęki zbiera się z podłogi. To po prostu kawał bardzo dobrego grania! Trochę tylko boli mnie fakt, że "Blasphemous Hell's Legions" został wydany wyłącznie na 7'' winylu. Aż prosi się, aby ten materiał dostępny był również na CD. Dzięki temu mógłby dotrzeć do znacznie szerszego grona fanów, którzy to akurat nie posiadają gramofonów. Myślę, że chętni by się z pewnością znaleźli; liczę, że ktoś podłapie temat i wypuści kompakt z tymi piekielnymi wyziewami. Tymczasem zachęcam was do sięgnięcia po ów split w takiej formie, w jakiej jest dostępny. Warto to mieć i słuchać do upadłego! Kult się sączy!

On the Polish underground scene, 2019 was marked by many interesting and genuinely successful splits. I haven't checked all of them as much as I wanted, not written about all of them. One of the best ones for me is Necrosadist/Witchfuck. Why? The first thing is awesome, organic sound and damn energy - it is catchy like hell! Both bands spit fire, sulfur and great riffs on right and left when they perform their art! They turn out great in their oldschool Black/Thrash Metal mix with punk dirt and fury. The same music style, but each band has its own character and way of playing. Both Witchfuck and Necrosadist served two premiere compositions here. It just flows and in a moment you want a replay of this pure entertainment. This is Metal in its most primitive and uncompromising form. It may not be revealing, it may use well-known solutions and forms, but it can still beat the shit out of you, maintain quality and performance level. This is what both groups can be proud of, without a doubt. They haven't been on the scene since yesterday, maybe they don't have a large publishing catalog yet, but when they spit something out into this world, it surely can be admired. It's just a piece of very good stuff! It only hurts me that "Blasphemous Hell's Legions" was released only on 7" vinyl. Being available on CD as well, it could have reached a much wider group of fans who do not have vinyl players. I think that it will surely be a lot of people who will buy it. I hope that someone will catch the topic and release a compact with these hellish tunes. In the meantime, I encourage you to grab this split in the form in which it is issued. It is worth having and listening till death! Pure kvlt!

Forest Whispers - Do Szkarłatnego Czyśćca EP (Fallen Temple 2019)

Poczynania Forest Whispers obserwuję niemal od początku. Z płyty na płytę ich Black Metal stawał się coraz lepszy, coraz lepiej brzmiący, dojrzały. Wraz z pełnym albumem "Arkany Zniewolenia" oraz niniejszą EPką zespół zakończył - w mojej opinii - drogę do odnalezienia własnego "ja". "Do Szkarłatnego Czyśćca" to materiał z już oszlifowanym stylem, całkiem przyzwoitą produkcją i chyba najlepszymi technicznie i kompozycyjnie utworami w dorobku Forest Whispers. Jest już pełen skład - wokalista, dwie gitary, a i chrzest sceniczny też za nimi. Znajdziecie tu te same inspiracje, jakie towarzyszą grupie od samego początku, czyli miks wpływów Pagan Black Metalu i jego klasycznego oblicza, połączenie brzmień polskiej i norweskiej sceny lat 90. w nowym, świeżym wydaniu. Może "efektu wow" tu nie ma, ale Forest Whispers trzyma poziom. Pomysłów, jak i umiejętności nie brakuje. Każdy ich kolejny materiał to słyszalny dowód muzycznej świadomości i ciągłego doskonalenia się, dążenia do perfekcji na obranej ścieżce. Cóż, czekamy zatem na ich kolejną płytę, a w międzyczasie możemy zatapiać się w mroczne odmęty Szkarłatnego Czyśćca. Polecam!

I have been observing Forest Whispers almost from the beginning. From record to record their Black Metal was getting better, better sounding, more mature. Along with the full album "Arkany Zniewolenia" and this EP, the band ended, in my opinion, the path to finding their own "I". "Do Szkarłatnego Czyśćca" (To Scarlet Purgatory) is a material with an already shaped style, quite decent production. It is probably their best achievement technically and compositionally. There is already a full line-up - a vocalist, two guitars, first live performances are also already behind them. You will find here the same inspirations that accompany the group from the very beginning, i.e. a mix of Pagan Black Metal influences and its classic form, a combination of sounds of the Polish and Norwegian '90s scene in a new, fresh incarnation. Maybe the "wow effect" is not here, but Forest Whispers keeps the level. There is no lack of ideas and skills. Each of their subsequent materials is audible evidence of musical awareness and continuous improvement, striving for perfection on the chosen path. Well, we are waiting for their next album, and in the meantime, we can sink into the dark depths of the Scarlet Purgatory. Recommended!

Haunted Cenotaph - Haunted Cenotaph (Fallen Temple 2019)

Po pierwszej Epce/demie chłopaki bardzo zaciekawili mnie swoim graniem, czekałem, co zaprezentują wraz z kolejnym materiałem. I niestety, długograja póki co nie dostaliśmy, a kolejną Epkę. W sumie nic w tym złego, ale znowu trochę krótko. Zmartwiła mnie tylko jedna rzecz. Mianowicie to, że "Haunted Cenotaph" nie przebił swojego poprzednika, a zaledwie się z nim zrównał i to na ostatkach sił. Obiektywnie to kawał świetnego, dobrze brzmiącego Doom/Death Metalu, nigdy nie przestanę tego głośno mówić i powtarzać, ale subiektywnie ten materiał niespecjalnie mi się spodobał, muszę być szczery. Za dużo wolnych partii, za dużo tego wszechobecnego ciężaru i gęstości. Jest oldschool pełną gębą, słychać takie ekipy jak Hellhammer, Samael (wczesny oczywiście), Asphyx, które wciąż są w ich inspiracjach, ale w tych swoich walcowatych odsłonach. Przyspieszeń jest tu jak dla mnie za mało, co niestety wpłynęło na balans płyty. Przez to odbiór w pewnych momentach zaczyna być nieco męczący, jednostajny i dopasuje to tylko fanom przede wszystkim tej Doom Metalowej części twórczości Haunted Cenotaph. Zaprowadzili nas w otchłań śmierci i zagłady, mroku i posępności i zmusili do przeżywania tych cech swej sztuki w wolniejszy, przytłaczający sposób i jestem pewien, że wielu z was ten kierunek kupi. Klimat to swój ma, urok pewnie też. Mnie, przyznaję, niestety nie zachwyciło na tyle, na ile bym chciał. Mimo tego nie zamierzam porzucić oczekiwania na pełny album. Nadal jestem go ciekaw i czekam z niecierpliwością na więcej Death niż Doom, oby jak najprędzej. Tymczasem komu smoła niestraszna i lubi się w niej zatopić, niech śmiga do Fallen Temple po swoją kopię! I jeszcze jedno, szacun za zajebistą okładkę!

After the first EP/demo, the band got me very interested in their playing, I waited for what they would present along with the next material. And unfortunately, we didn't get the full-length, but another EP. All in all nothing bad, but again a little short. Only one thing worried me, namely that the "Haunted Cenotaph" did not break its predecessor, but just caught up with it and at the last strength. Objectively, it's a piece of great, good-sounding Doom / Death Metal, I will never stop saying and repeating it loudly, but subjectively I do not like this material, I have to be honest. Too many slow parts, too much of this ubiquitous weight and density. It is a totally oldschool art, you can hear such influences like Hellhammer, Samael (early of course), Asphyx, which are still there from the very beginning, but in their heaviest incarnation. There is not enough of these faster parts, which unfortunately affected the balance of the record. Due to this, the reception at some moments begins to be a bit tiring, repetitive and it will suit only fans of all this Doom Metal part of the work of Haunted Cenotaph. They led us into the abyss of death and destruction, darkness and gloom, and forced us to experience these features of their art in a slow, overwhelming way and I am sure that many of you will catch up with this direction. It has its own atmosphere, charm probably too. I admit it, unfortunately it didn't impress as much as I would like. Despite this, I'm not going to give up waiting for the full album. I am still curious and waiting impatiently for more Death than Doom, may it be soon. Meanwhile, who is not afraid of tar and likes to sink in it, just check out Fallen Temple for your copy!
