Przyssałem się do tej płyty ostatnio jak rzep do psiego ogona i nie mogę się od niej oderwać. Pewnie sporo z was pamięta ile szumu narobił debiut Słowaków. Dwójka bije "Stridzie Dni" na głowę. Pozornie zdawać by się mogło, że poprzeczka została postawiona z marszu wysoko, ale Malokarpatan przeskoczyli ją bez problemu generując nową i to jeszcze wyżej. Z płytą zapoznałem się nie tak dawno po premierze, jakoś na początku 2018, ale natłok innych tytułów wciąż przepychał mi temat w czasie, co chwila było coś do ogarnięcia na bieżąco. No ale wreszcie z niepohamowaną radością zasiadam do odrobiny refleksji na jej temat.
Pierwsza sprawa to to, że zespół poszedł na tej płycie w Heavy Metalowy (ten surowy i nieco przybrudzony) oldschool niemal po całości. Dlaczego niemal? Bo jest sowicie wypełniony czarną polewką, która uwydatnia się przede wszystkich przez pewną dozę złowieszczości w riffach, swoisty klimat Pierwszej Fali oraz wokale. Tak, Temnohor brzmi jak połączenie Nocturno Culto, Cronosa i Frantiseka Storma w jednym, także jak ktoś nie słyszał, to perfekcyjnie może to sobie wyobrazić. Wracając do samej muzyki spotyka się tu klasyczny, siarczysty Heavy Metal lat 80-tych z tzw. Pierwszą Falą Black Metalu. Z jednej strony słyszymy elementy Iron Maiden, Pokolgep, Saxon, może trochę Motorhead, a z drugiej... Ha! I teraz pomyślicie, że pojadę cytatem "Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost" jak to najczęściej bywa w tym przypadku, a otóż nie! Moim zdaniem, z tej "mrocznej" strony kłania się przede tu przede wszystkim Mercyful Fate, Master's Hammer i nasz rodzimy Kat (album "666"). To ich wpływy można usłyszeć tu najwyraźniej. Do tego wszystkiego dochodzi jeszcze jeden zespół. Mianowicie Darkthrone, i nie chodzi mi tu o wokale. Duet Fenriz- Nocturno Culto bardzo podobnie poczynali sobie jeżeli chodzi o strukturę niektórych riffów czy brzmienie na takich płytach jak "Sardonic Wrath" czy "F.O.A.D". Niewykluczone, że Malokarpatan mogli odrobinę się Norwegami zainspirować lub jest to po prostu spore podobieństwo i tyle. Tak na marginesie, powiem wam, że w chwili obecnej wolę to oldschoolowe granie właśnie w wydaniu Słowaków niż Darkthrone. Nie przypuszczałem, że coś takiego kiedykolwiek powiem, ale cóż, to jest fakt. W zestawieniu "Nordkarpatenland" vs "Arctic Thunder" jest 1:0 dla naszych południowych sąsiadów. Kontynuując, poza tym, że mamy tu riffowy róg obfitości, bańka sama do tego chodzi, to jeszcze dostajemy w tekstach słowacki folklor w jego ciemniejszej odsłonie oraz ponurą, wisielczą dawkę humoru. Dodatkowo utwory poprzedzielane są oryginalnymi wstawkami pochodzącymi głównie ze starych słowackich filmów. Zabieg, trzeba przyznać, oryginalny i robi swoje. Płyta ma swoją własną niepowtarzalną atmosferę na którą składa się zarówno świetna muzyka, teksty, jak i grafiki zdobiące album. Na koniec powiem szczerze, że to jeden z najlepszych metalowych wyziewów jakie słyszałem w ciągu ostatnich 3 lat. Uważam, że "Nordkarpatenland" powinien znaleźć się na półce każdego zwolennika starego, metalowego grania. Mus i szlus!

Lately I jus can't get enough of this album! Probably many of you remember That their debut made a siginificant impact on the underground. "Nordkarpatenland" is even better than "Stridzie Dni", they beat their debut without a doubt. Seemingly, it would seem that the bar was set high, but Malokarpatan jumped over it without a problem generating a new one and even higher. I got acquainted with the record not so long ago after the premiere, somehow at the beginning of 2018, but the flood of other titles kept pushing the subject through the time, and every now and then there was something to grasp on a regular basis. Well, but with unrestrained joy, I sat to write down a bit of reflections on it.
The first thing is that the band moved towards Heavy Metal (this raw and slightly mucky one) oldschool almost all over the album. Why almost? Because it is lavishly filled with a dark stuff, which is accentuated above all by a certain dose of ominousness in riffs, the peculiar atmosphere of the First Wave BM and vocals. Yes, Temnohor sounds like a combination of Nocturno Culto, Cronos and Frantisek Storm in one, also if someone has not heard his voice so far, he can perfectly imagine how he sounds like. Returning to the music itself, it's the mixture of the classic Heavy Metal of the 80's with the so-called First Wave of BM (mentioned already). On the one hand, we hear elements of Iron Maiden, Pokolgep, Saxon, maybe a bit of Motorhead, and on the other ... Ha! And now you will think that I will go with the quote "Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost" as it usually happens in this case, but no! In my opinion, Mercyful Fate, Master's Hammer and our Polish Kat (album "666") represents this "dark" side. Their influence can be heard here apparently. There is one more band to add here. Namely, Darkthrone, and I do not mean only vocals here. The duo Fenriz-Nocturno Culto similarly made themselves when it comes to the structure of some riffs or the sound on such records as "Sardonic Wrath" or "F.O.A.D". It is possible that Norwegians could have inspired Malokarpatan a little or it is simply a similarity and that's it. By the way, I will tell you that at the moment I prefer oldschool stuff played by Slovaks than Darkthrone. I did not think I would say anything like that, but, well, that's a fact to be honest. In the contest "Nordkarpatenland" vs "Arctic Thunder" it is 1: 0 for our southern neighbors. Continuing, apart from the fact that we have the riff cornucopia here, a pure headbanging thing, we still get the Slovak folklore in its darker version and the grim dose of humor. In addition, the songs are separated by original samples mainly from old Slovak films. Nice idea, I must admit, original and does its job. The album has its own unique atmosphere which consists of both great music, lyrics and graphics put on the album. Finally, and honestly, it's one of the best metal releases I've heard in the last 3 years. I think that "Nordkarpatenland" should be on the shelf of every supporter of old metal art. Buy or die!
