Weresoul - S/T (Malignant Voices 2020)

Na tę płytę czekałem od kiedy tylko dotarły do mnie informacje, że pojawi się sumptem Malignant Voices. Za Weresoul stoi nie kto inny, jak znany z przede wszystkim z Sauron i Narrenwind Artur "Evil" Zagoździński. To już świadectwo nie tylko jakości, ale i tego, że nie będzie to płyta prosta, która łechta trendy i szuka jak największego poklasku. O nie, tu będzie się działo, a i nie będzie to dzieło płytkie ani oczywiste! "Weresoul" to przede wszystkim płyta, za którą stoi konkretny koncept. W ciągu trzydziestu trzech minut materiału dostajemy sześć historii utrzymanych w konwencji horroru, a zespolonych postacią tytułowego Weresoul - demonicznego pożeracza grzesznych dusz. Każda z opowiedzianych tu historii została w booklecie opatrzona oddzielną grafiką (autorstwa Kima Holma, również odpowiedzialnego za okładkę i co tylko w warstwie graficznej - poza logiem) i stosownym wstępem. Ależ w tym momencie kłania się tutaj twórczość Kinga Diamonda, która to z pewnością zainspirowała twórców albumu, bo jest to też po części dzieło Marcina "Warmwooda" Stępnia. Jest on nie tylko odpowiedzialny za wokale na płycie (swoją drogą bardzo zróżnicowane, zależnie od klimatu kompozycji), ale również dorzucił swoje trzy grosze do tekstów. Co do samej muzyki, prym wiodą tu partie gitar. Czasem wygrywające fajne, zapadające w pamięć motywy, czasem nieco połamane, wielowarstwowe i zakręcone, tak jak same kompozycje (siłą rzeczy kłania mi się tutaj czasem Narrenwind, zwłaszcza z pierwszej płyty). Każdy z utworów ubogacony jest odpowiednim intrem i tłami dźwiękowymi, które budują nam atmosferę i klimat krążka. Dodając do tego wokale i historie kryjące się za każdym z tekstów, dostajemy bardzo ciekawe i ambitne dzieło z oryginalnym pomysłem. I serio, Weresoul nie da się zaszufladkować do jednego konkretnego stylu, to po prostu kawał dobrego Metalu czy po prostu kawał świetnej, dojrzałej muzyki. Maluje nam nie tylko kompleksowy, dźwiękowy pejzaż nasycony mrokiem, niepokojem i lekka nutką dreszczyku, ale i sporo emocji, dzięki którym album nabiera jeszcze większej wartości. Czy będzie to moja płyta roku? Są na to spore szanse.

I've been waiting for this material ever since I received information that it would be issued by Malignant Voices. Behind Weresoul is none other than Arthur "Evil" Zagoździński, known primarily from Sauron and Narrenwind. This is a testimony not only of quality, but also of the fact that it will not be a simple album, which tickles trends and looks for the applause. Oh no, what will happen here will not be simple or obvious! "Weresoul" is above all an album behind which there is a specific concept. Within thirty-three minutes of material we get six stories kept in the convention of horror, and bound by the character of the title Weresoul - a demonic devourer of sinful souls. Each of the stories told here was provided with separate graphics in the booklet (by Kim Holm, also responsible for the cover and whatever in the graphic layer - except for the logo) and an appropriate introduction. At this point King Diamond's works bows here, which certainly inspired the album's creators, because it is also partly the work of Marcin "Warmwood" Stępień. He is not only responsible for the vocals on the album (by the way very different, depending on the climate of the composition), but he also added a bit from himself to the lyrics. As for the music itself, the guitar parts lead the way here. Sometimes plying cool, memorable riffs, sometimes a bit broken, multi-layered and twisted, just like the compositions themselves (Narrenwind sometimes bows here, especially the first album). Each of the songs is enriched with an appropriate intro and background motives that build the atmosphere and climate of the records. Adding the vocals and stories behind each of the lyrics, we get a very interesting and ambitious work with an original concept. And seriously, Weresoul can't be thrown into one particular style, it's just a piece of good Metal or just a piece of great, mature music. It paints us not only a comprehensive, audio landscape filled with darkness, anxiety and a slight note of thrill, but also a lot of emotions, thanks to which the album gains even more value. Will it be my album of the year? There is a serious chance for that.

Deus Mortem- Kosmocide (Malignant Voices/ Terratur Possessions 2019)

"Kosmocide" to płyta na którą w tym roku czekałem najbardziej. Zapowiedzi były nader obiecujące, w tym premierowy utwór i fenomenalna okładka autorstwa Artema Grigoryeva. Gdy w końcu mój egzemplarz(e) do mnie dotarły i odpaliłem płytę, to już po pierwszej minucie dałem się porwać i wchłonąć tym piekielnym dźwiękom. To jest to proszę Państwa! Deus Mortem nie zawiedli, a i to uważam jest mało powiedziane, bo po trzech latach oczekiwania dostaliśmy płytę nie tylko zadowalającą, nie tylko solidną, ale wręcz mistrzowską! Siedem kompozycji zionących najprawdziwszą Black Metalową esencją, siedem plugawych świątyń mroku i bluźnierstwa! Mamy tu potężne, tnące niczym brzytwa riffy, a z drugiej strony ogromne pokłady klimatu, co składa się na esencję gatunku jakim para się Deus Mortem. Poza mocą, świadectwem weny twórczej i świeżością nadaną brzmieniu i samym, dobrze znanym już Black Metalowym strukturom, zespół sięga również do szlachetnej przeszłości, i to bynajmniej nie raz. Słuchając "Kosmocide" usłyszymy zarówno stare, jeszcze diabelskie Bathory, wczesny Black/ Thrash lat 80-tych spod sztandaru takich ekip jak Destruction, elementy charakterystyczne dla najlepszych dokonań Dark Funeral, a nawet echa genialnego "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" Mayhem czy motywów kojarzonych z Darkhrone czasów "Under a Funeral Moon". Całość wieńczy nienawistny, złowieszczy wokal Necrosodoma oraz perkusyjna nawałnica jaką serwuje Stormblast, znany już doskonale z takich ekip jak Infernal War czy Thunderbolt. Brzmi to wszystko wręcz niewiarygodnie, ale każda ze wspomnianych rzeczy tu jest. Płyty słucha się jednym tchem i ma się ochotę zagłębiać w jej czeluści wielokrotnie. Już w tej chwili uważam, że "Kosmocide" siedzi na swoim własnym tronie, a z czasem płyta spokojnie dorobi się kultowego statusu, bo to swoisty manifest sztuki jaką jest Black Metal. To pieprzony majstersztyk, materiał bez skazy!

"Kosmocide" is my most awaited record of this year. The announcements were very promising, including the premiere song and a phenomenal cover by Artyom Grigoryev. When in the end my copies reached me and I started the listening, after the first minute I let myself get carried away and absorbed by these hellish sounds. This is it, ladies and gentleman! Deus Mortem did not disappoint, and I think that is very little said, because after three years of waiting we got the album not only satisfying in every possible way, not only solid, but simply masterful! Seven compositions that represent the truest Black Metal essence, seven evil temples of darkness and blasphemy! We have powerful, razor-sharp riffs, and on the other hand, huge amounts of climate, which makes up the essence of the genre that Deus Mortem represents. In addition to the power, testimony of creative inspiration and the freshness given to the sound and the already well-known Black Metal structures, the band also reaches for a noble past, and not once. Listening to "Kosmocide" we will hear old, devilish Bathory, early Black / Thrash 80s associated with bands like Destruction, elements characteristic for the best Dark Funeral achievements, and even the echoes of the genius "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" by Mayhem, or parts that leads us to Darkhrone of the "Under a Funeral Moon" era. The whole is crowned with the hateful, ominous vocals of Necrosodom and the drum storm that Stormblast serves, already well known from such acts like Infernal War or Thunderbolt. It sounds incredible, but each and every one of these things is here. The album is consumed by the listener in one go but you want to go deeper into its depths again and again. At the moment I think that Kosmocide is sitting on its own throne, and soon the album will acquire the iconic status for sure, because it is a peculiar manifesto of art that is Black Metal. It's a fucking masterpiece, nothing bad can be said about it!

Deus Mortem- Demons of Matter and the Shells of the Dead (Malignant Voices 2016)

Jako, że już niebawem planuję recenzję najnowszego krążka Deus Mortem, postanowiłem skorzystać z tej okazji i przypomnieć wam ich poprzednie wydawnictwo.
W 2016 roku, po 3 latach od wydania swojego pierwszego długograja zespół powrócił z materiałem tak niesamowicie esencjonalnym i mówiąc szczerze, w tamtym momencie, swoim najlepszym. Zdefiniowali swój styl i dali znać wszem i wobec, że nie biorą jeńców, a na scenie podziemnej mają sporo do powiedzenia. "Demons of Matter and the Shells of the Dead" to co prawda są to tylko 3 utwory, ale za to jakie! Diabelski majestat zamknięty w muzyce i manifest najczystszej, Black Metalowej sztuki
Wrota otchłani otwiera "The Higher Sun". Od razu rzuca się na uszy bardzo fajny pogłos złowieszczego, obłąkanego wokalu zaserwowany na tym wydawnictwie, dodaje to pewnego klimatu i przestrzenności (tym bardziej w takiej formie). Zarówno tutaj, jak i w następującym później "Penetrating the Veils of Negativity" partie solowe gitar brzmieniowo nieodparcie kojarzą mi się z tymi z albumu "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" Bathory, różnica jest tylko taka, że tamte były o wiele bardziej surowe. Oba utwory są rozbudowane, nie ma jednostajności tempa co urozmaica odbiór. "Penetrating..." kończy zapadający w pamięć, jakby rytualny motyw. W trzecim, zamykającym całość "Olam HaBeriah", dominują średnie tempa, klimat rytuału, podniosły, acz złowieszczy. Jednak nie można dać się zwieść bo pod koniec dostajemy nagły zwrot ku ścieżce szaleństwa i chaosu wprowadzonej już przez dwie poprzednie kompozycje. Brzmieniowo materiał jest nienaganny, a kompozycyjnie, cóż, dla mnie to jedna z najlepszych, możliwych wizytówek tego typu grania
Bardzo podoba mi się atmosfera jaką udało się stworzyć zespołowi na tym mini albumie. Mrok dosłownie wylewa się z głośników, jest mistycznie. Lubię takie materiały gdzie muzyka niesie ze sobą wyraźne emocje, pobudza wyobraźnię, kiedy autentycznie jest jeszcze coś poza samymi dźwiękami, tutaj to dostałem.
Co do samej formy wydania. Nazwa Malignant Voices poniekąd mówi sama za siebie. Ci ludzie nie odwalają fuszerki. Nie mam co prawda wersji limitowanej, w czarnym pudełku, ale i ta zwykła jest naprawdę niczego sobie, także mamy coś nie tylko dla ucha, ale i dla oka. Ogromny plus ode mnie za klimatyczną okładkę oddającą charakter zawartości płyty, od razu wiadomo z czym to się je. Jak najbardziej polecam ten materiał, warto nie tylko posłuchać ale i mieć na półce! Deus Mortem to jak dla mnie czołówka naszej obecnej sceny BM!

As I plan to review the latest Deus Mortem album soon, I decided to take this opportunity to remind you of their previous release.
In 2016, after 3 years from the release of their first long-play, Deus Mortem returned with such an incredibly essential material and to be honest, at that moment, their best. They defined their style and let everyone know that they do not take prisoners, and they have a lot to say on the underground scene. "Demons of Matter and the Shells of the Dead" are admittedly only 3 compositions, but what a hellish stuff they are! The devil's majesty enclosed in music and the manifest of the purest, Black Metal art!
The gates of the abyss are opened by "The Higher Sun". Immediately you can hear a very nice reverberation of the ominous, mad vocal served on this release, it adds a certain climate and spatiality (especially in this form). Both here and in the subsequent "Penetrating the Veils of Negativity" guitar solo parts sound can be irresistibly associated with those from the album "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" by Bathory, the only difference is that those were much more raw. Both tracks are extensive, there is no tempo uniformity which diversifies the reception. "Penetrating ..." ends with a memorable, ritual motive. In the third, closing the whole "Olam HaBeriah", the mid tempos dominate, there is the climate of the ritual. It's epic, but ominous. However, you can not be fooled because at the end you get a sudden turn towards the path of madness and chaos introduced already by the two previous compositions. The sound is impeccable, and compositionally, well, for me it is one of the best possible example of this type of Metal art.
I really like the atmosphere that the band has created on this mini album. Darkness literally spills out of the speakers, it's mystical. I like such materials where music brings clear emotions, stimulates the imagination, when there is something authentic beyond the sounds, here I got it.
As to the form of the edition itself. The name Malignant Voices speaks for itself in a way. These people do not fuss with bugs. I do not have a limited version in a black box, but this one is also really cool. We also have something not only for the ear, but also for the eye. A huge plus from me for a climatic cover art that reflects the character of the record, it speaks for itself. I totally recommend this material, it is worth not only to listen to, but also to have it on the shelf! Deus Mortem is for me the top of our current BM scene!

Death Like Mass- Jak Zabija Diabeł (Malignant Voices/ Under the Sign of Garazel 2017)

Najnowsza Epka Death Like Mass to jeden tych najbardziej naznaczonych kopytem czarta materiałów jakie dane mi było ostatnio słyszeć. Czternaście minut totalnie przesiąkniętych złem i brutalnością, że aż kapie i ścieka. I co najważniejsze, brzmi to wszystko prawdziwie i autentycznie przekonująco.
Death Like Mass ma sporo wspólnego z Cultes Des Ghoules i to nie tylko za sprawą wokalisty Mark of the Devil, ale także samej muzyki, która jest w jakimś tam stopniu odzwierciedleniem wspomnianego zespołu, ale podana w jeszcze bardziej diabelskiej formie i zagrana na jeszcze wyższych obrotach. Nie da się ukryć, że to co reprezentuje sobą "Jak Zabija Diabeł" jest swoistym manifestem indywidualizmu, własnej muzycznej drogi, która stoi w totalnej opozycji do jakichkolwiek trendów czy poprawności, idzie totalnie pod prąd i to jest piękne. Nowatorstwa tu nie ma, ale stare dobre patenty obecne w Black Metalowej sztuce zostały przekute tak misternie, że stworzyły pewną nową jakość i zabrzmiały niesamowicie świeżo. Zespół postawił tu mniej na brzmienie samo w sobie, a przede wszystkim na samą moc dźwięku, gęstość i ładunek agresji. Czy to utwór tytułowy, "Fausta Ciemna Noc Duszy", czy "Abominacje", każdy z nich reprezentuje ogromny poziom zniszczenia i chaosu. Pewnym jest, że ten materiał, choć bardzo krótki, przeskoczył debiutanckie "Kręte Drogi" o całą długość. Każdego ze składników poprzednika jest tu więcej i każdy jest konkretnie podrasowany. Z pewnością Death Like Mass może się poszczycić tym że swoimi 14 minutami kładzie na łopatki wiele albumów pełnowymiarowych, a to już nie lada osiągnięcie!
Co tu dużo mówić, jest to iście bezkompromisowy i intensywny materiał, konglomerat bluźnierstwa i Black Metalowa uczta od początku do końca, zero rozdrabniania się, obok tego po prostu nie da się przejść obojętnie. Diabeł na tym krążku zabija z wprawą godną prawdziwego zabójcy! Nic tylko czekać cierpliwie na kolejną odsłonę tego piekielnego projektu.
