Possessed- Revelations of Oblivion (Nuclear Blast 2019)

Possessed powraca z nową płytą po ponad 30 latach. I powraca w naprawdę dobrym stylu. Mimo upływu tylu lat, rozpadzie oryginalnego składu, zespół nie powiedział ostatniego słowa i wciąż potrafi stworzyć materiał, który zadowoli nawet tych najbardziej wymagających. Może nie będzie okrzyków nie wiadomo jakiego zachwytu, ale aprobata, szacunek i pozytywne zaskoczenie z pewnością. Grupa pod dowództwem Jeffa Becerry nagrała intensywną, treściwą i potężnie brzmiącą płytę- Death/ Thrash Metal najwyższej próby nawiązujący w wielu miejscach do tego co pamiętamy z czasów "Seven Churches" czy "Beyond the Gates", tyle, że w nowej odsłonie. Już nie tak odkrywczy jak wtedy, ale wciąż potrafiący słuchacza sponiewierać i pokazać klasę w temacie.
"Revelations of Oblivion" to dwanaście intensywnych gnających na złamanie karku kompozycji (widać, że na sekcję rytmiczną położono szczególny nacisk), wypełnionych zmianami temp, ciekawymi solówkami i świetnym wokalem Jeffa. Trzeba przyznać, że wciąż jest w formie i nie dostrzega się jakieś zasadniczej różnicy w porównaniu ze starymi płytami. Słychać, że to on i że czuje się w swojej robocie niczym ryba w wodzie. Ten album to nic innego jak kontynuacja dziedzictwa tej grupy. Nie odkrywają niczego nowego, nie zmieniają stylistyki, nie eksperymentują. Rzucają w stronę fanów pytanie: Pamiętacie nas? To znowu Possessed! Jeżeli wciąż uwielbiacie oldschoolowy Death/ Thrash to zapraszamy! Produkcja płyty może jest nieco mniej oldschoolowa, ale z pewnością nie same kompozycje. Cóż, to już nie tamte czasy i nie podziemie. Nie jest surowo, ale z to soczyście i dynamicznie. Także nie jest to rzecz jasna minus. Possessed nigdy wcześniej nie brzmiało tak potężnie.
Reasumując dostajemy od Possessed solidną płytę, której świetnie się słucha i która zlatuje niemal momentalnie. Może pozbawiona jest jakiś wyraźnych, konkretnych highlightów, czegoś na miarę tzw. hitów, ale jako całość sprawdza się świetnie. Osobiście cieszę się, że zespół powrócił na scenę, że nowa ekipa jest w świetnej formie, potrafi wciąż tworzyć dobre numery i że dostaliśmy szansę doświadczyć sztuki spod znaku Possessed po raz kolejny. W końcu to legenda i ojcowie chrzestni Death Metalu nie?

Possessed is back with a new album after over 30 years. And it returns in a really good style. Despite the passage of so many years, split-up of the original lineup, the band did not say the last word and still can create material that will satisfy even the most demanding. Maybe there will be no shouts, no great admiration, but approval, respect and positive surprise for sure. The group under the command of Jeff Becerra recorded an intense, rich and powerful sounding album - Death / Thrash Metal, which in many places resembles what we remember from the times of "Seven Churches" or "Beyond the Gates", but in the new version. Not as groundbreaking as it was then, but still able to crush the listener and show the class in the subject.
"Revelations of Oblivion" are twelve intense, rushing compositions (one can see that a special emphasis was placed on the rhythm section), filled with tempo changes, interesting solos and great vocals by Jeff. Admittedly, he is still in the form and there is no major difference compared to the old records. You can hear that it is him and that he feels in his job like a fish in water. This album is nothing but the continuation of the heritage of this group. They do not discover anything new, they do not change their style, they do not experiment. They throw in the question: Do you remember us? It's Possessed again! If you still love Oldschool Death / Thrash, join us! The production of the album may be slightly less oldschool, but certainly not the compositions themselves. Well, it's not those times and not the underground. It is not severe, but it is condensed and dynamic. Also, it is not a disadvantage, of course. Possessed never sounded so powerful before.
Summing up, we get a solid record from Possessed, which is great to listen to. Maybe it is devoid of any explicit, specific highlights, something likea hit of some sort, but as a whole it works great. Personally, I'm glad that the band has returned to the scene, that the new line-up can still create good stuff and that we got the chance to experience the Possessed art once again. After all, they are a legend and Godfathers Death Metal!
