Wcześniej nie obczajałem niczego od tych jegomości, ale wystarczył jeden odsłuch "Sadopunk Finland" i już wiem, że temat musi zostać na cito nadrobiony. Lubicie Impaled Nazarene, Gehennah, Nocturnal Breed? Ta płyta jest totalnie dla was! Już sama okładka materiału sugeruje, co będzie się tu działo i że dostaniemy konkretny cios w ryj. Uwielbiam "Suomi Finland Perkele" i ta płyta Womit Angel chyli czoło tym klasykiem fińskiej sceny. Jest tu black metalowy chaos, wszelkie możliwe bluźnierstwo, do tego dochodzi punkowy brut i rock 'n' rollowa chwytliwość. Mieszanka wprost wyśmienita! Trzydzieści minut obskurnego punk metalu! Może nie jest to oryignalne, jest prosto i bezpośrednio, ale po jaką cholerę ma być inaczej? To działa! "Sadopunk Finland", to dla mnie niemal ta sama liga, co Impaled Nazarene i jeżeli ich starsi koledzy odejdą w pewnym momencie na tzw. emeryturę, to Womit Angel zajmie ich tron. I będzie to dziedzic godny tego zaszczytu. Dajcie sobie spokój z czymkolwiek innym i walcie do Grega po ten album, bo w tej estetyce na chwilę obecną nic lepszego nie znajdziecie.

The blasphemers from the Finnish Womit Angel strike with their fifth album. Earlier I did not check anything from these guys, but one listening to "Sadopunk Finland" was enough and I already know that the subject has to be made up for. Do you like Impaled Nazarene, Gehennah, Nocturnal Breed? This album is totally for you! The very cover of the material suggests what will happen here and that we will get a concrete fist in the face. I love "Suomi Finland Perkele" and this Womit Angel album is bowing down with this classic of the Finnish scene. There is black metal chaos, all possible blasphemy, plus punk dirt and rock 'n' roll catchiness. The mixture is simply delicious! Thirty minutes of obscure punk metal! It may not be original, it is straightforward and direct, but why the hell should it be any different? It works! "Sadopunk Finland" for me is almost the same league as Impaled Nazarene and if their older colleagues leave at some point for the so-called retire, Womit Angel will take their throne. And it will be an heir worthy of this honor. Give up on anything else and hit Godz Ov War for this album, because you won't find anything better in this aesthetics at the moment.

Vexev - Frater Superior (Under the Sign of Garazel Productions 2022)

Uff, od czego tu zacząć, poza faktem, że płyta mną pozamiatała już przy pierwszym odsłuchu? Teraz katuję ją już nie wiem, który raz i nie mam dość. "Frater Superior" to już czwarte demo włoskiego Vexev i pierwsze, jakiego dane mi było posłuchać (ale będę nadrabiał, bo jest co!). Zespół tworzy surowy black metal, z kapitalnymi klawiszowymi tłami (robią tu klimat jakich mało). Śmiem twierdzić, że są tu tak samo ważnym elementem jak gitary, idą obie sekcje w parze niczym lita ściana dźwięku. Album jest w swej estetyce okultystyczny, rytualny, pełen diabelskiej, mistycznej aury. "Frater Superior" brzmi jak black metalowa ścieżka do jakiegoś obrzędu odbywającego się w zapomnianej świątyni, grocie, w mroku, przy świetle świec, unoszącym się w powietrzu zapachu krwi i kadzideł. Bardzo spodobało mi się jak zespół połączył potężną sekcję rytmiczną, całość instrumentarium podbił pogłosem - nadając materiałowi echa.przestrzenności, a wokal zaserwował surowy, trzeszczący jak z jakieś bardzo starej demówki, kiedy dostęp do super sprzętu był dla zespołów z podziemia nieosiągalny. Współgra to ze sobą niesamowicie! Mamy kwiecień i z tego, co słyszałem, to na tę chwilę nie pojawił się żaden materiał w ramach black metalu, który tak bardzo by mi siadł i tak mnie zaczarował. Prześcignęli nawet Akathartos, który również oceniłem bardzo wysoko. Czekam na coś równie dobrego, jeżeli nie, to jest to dla mnie płyta roku w temacie! Kropka!

Uff, where to start, apart from the fact that the album just blew me away from the first listening? Now I'm playing it for the x-time already and I can't get enough. "Frater Superior" is the fourth demo of the Italian Vexev and the first one that I had the opportunity to listen to (but I will make up for it, because it's totally worth it!). The band creates raw black metal, with great keyboard backgrounds (they create an atmosphere that is hard to find). I dare say that they are just as important here as the guitars, both sections go hand in hand like a solid wall of sound. The album is occult, ritualistic in its aesthetics, full of devilish, mystical aura. "Frater Superior" sounds like a black metal score to some ritual taking place in a forgotten temple, cave, in the dark, by the light of candles, with the scent of blood and incense floating in the air. I really liked how the band combined a powerful rhythm section, boosted the whole instrumentation with reverb - giving the material an echo of space, and the vocal served raw, crackling like from some very old demo, when access to good quality equipment was unaccesible for underground bands. It works together givig an amazing experience! It's April and from what I heard, at the moment there is no black metal material that would appeal to much that much and enchant me to the bone. They even surpassed Akathartos, which I also rated very highly. I'm waiting for something equally good, if not, this is the album of the year for me in the subject of black metal! I have spoken!

Hermodr - Tidens Tand (Wolfspell Records 2022)

Nie jest nowością, że szwedzki Hermodr jest projektem bardzo płodnym. To jeden z tych zespołów, które w ramach black metalu mogą pochwalić się naprawdę bogatą dyskografią. Raft tworzy muzykę Hermodr w całości sam i niemal co roku wypuszcza nowy album, lub przynajmniej kilka EPek lub kompilacji. Słychać, że czerpie on sporo inspiracji z twórczości Burzum, Summoning i stoi ramię w ramię z równie kreatywnymi zespołami tworzącymi atmosferyczny black metal, jak Kalmankantaja, Eldamar, Lustre, Spell of Dark czy Nyktophilia. To wszystko kontynuowane jest na nowej płycie "Tidens Tand". Muzyka na tym albumie to istny, lity pejzaż dźwięków malujących przestrzenie wypełnione pięknem, majestatem, acz również mrokiem i tajemniczością otaczającej nas natury (nie bez przyczyn każde wydawnictwo Hermodr zdobią takie, a nie inne okładki). Utwory płyną jeden za drugim, budując klimat tak charakterystyczny dla tego zespołu. Są nastrojowe, utrzymane w wolnych i średnich tempach, czasem mniej lub bardziej oszczędne w w formie, ale wciąż bogate w emocje, nastrój i niesamowite, nostalgiczne/refleksyjne melodie. Dodatkowo, poza lekko wampirycznym wokalem Rafna, usłyszymy też żeńskie wokale, urozmaicające tu i ówdzie niektóre kompozycje. Mimowolnie przypomniały mi trochę to, co działo się na płycie "The Stargate" Mortiis, ale nie ma tu ich aż tyle i nie są aż tak, nazwijmy to, nachalne. Proporcje zostały zachowane, nie usłyszymy ich w każdym utworze. Wszystko ma tu swoje miejsce i zadanie. Cóż, ja wracam do ponownego słuchania "Tidens Tand", a wam szczerze polecam sięgnięcie po ten krążek. Kawał pięknej muzy!

It is not new that Swedish Hermodr is a very prolific project. This is one of those black metal bands that can boast of a really rich discography. Raft creates Hermodr's music entirely by himself and almost every year releases a new album, or at least a few EPs or compilations. You can hear that he draws a lot of inspiration from the works of Burzum, Summoning and stands shoulder to shoulder with equally creative bands creating atmospheric black metal, such as Kalmankantaja, Eldamar, Lustre, Spell of Dark or Nyktophilia. All this is continued on the new album "Tidens Tand". The music on this album is a real, solid landscape of sounds painting spaces filled with beauty, majesty, but also with darkness and mystery of the nature that surrounds us (not without reason, every Hermodr release is decorated with such and not other covers). The songs flow one after the another, building the atmosphere so characteristic of this band. They are romantic, slow and medium tempos, sometimes more or less thrifty in form, but still rich in emotions, mood and amazing, nostalgic/reflective melodies. In addition, apart from Raft's slightly vampiric vocals, we will also hear female ones, diversifying some compositions here and there. They involuntarily reminded me a bit of what happened on the album "The Stargate" by Mortiis, but there aren't that many of them here and they are not so, let's call it, intrusive. The proportions were kept, we won't hear them in every track. Everything has its place and purpose here. Well, I am going back to listening to "Tidens Tand" again, and I sincerely recommend you to reach for this album. A piece of beautiful music!

Amaltheia - Amaltheia (Godz Ov War Productions 2022)

Amaltheia to nowy grecko-angielski zespół parający się bardzo osobliwą formą black metalu, a właściwie death black metalu, powiedziałbym, że techniczną, nieco połamaną, pozostającą wciąż w stosunkowo oldschoolowym brzmieniu. Materiał zaczyna się jak Burzum na sterydach, żeby zaraz przejść w mnogość różnych odniesień i kompozycyjnych połamańców. Są tu i bardziej chwytliwe momenty, bardziej tradycyjne w strukturach, ale również nieschematyczne rozwiązania, których w tego typu graniu nie spotyka się codziennie. Miejscami tworzy to pewien muzyczny chaos. Nawet jest w tym jakaś metoda. W sumie od razu pomyślałem o takim Aevangelist lub Deathspell Omega na przykład, których muzyka też nie jet taka dosłowna i jednoznaczna, dokładnie tak, jak ma to miejsce z Amaltheia. Szczerze powiem, że mimo swojej kompleksowości i oryginalności płyty słuchało mi się średnio, jakoś ciężko mi było przebrnąć przez nią za każdym razem, gdy ją odpalałem i starałem się w to wszystko zagłębić. Ale jest to kwestia absolutnie subiektywna. W black metalu wolę inne rozwiązania, chyba bardziej oczywiste, tradycyjne. Bardzo podobało mi się u Amaltheia to oldschoolowe brzmienie płyty, wokal, aczkolwiek sama budowa kompozycji już do mojego gustu tak nie przypadła. Jednym słowem, wszystko fajnie, ale nie ta forma, nie te nuty. Jeżeli ktoś lubi black metal, który trochę odjeżdża od tych już okrzepłych na scenie form, to Amaltheia będzie ciekawym wyzwaniem. Płyta będzie dla was totalnie nieprzewidywalna.

Amaltheia is a new Greek-English band dealing with a very peculiar form of black metal, or actually death black metal, I would say technical, a bit broken, still in a relatively oldschool sound. The material starts like Burzum on steroids, only to pass into a multitude of different references and compositional breaks. There are also more catchy moments, more traditional in structures, but also non-schematic solutions that are not encountered every day in this type of playing. Sometimes it creates a kind of musical chaos. There is even a method to it. All in all, I immediately thought about such bands like Aevangelist or Deathspell Omega, for example, whose music is not as straightforward and obvious, so the same as Amaltheia. Honestly, despite the complexity and originality of the album, I had average joy  when listening to it, somehow it was hard for me to get through it every time I started it up and tried to dive into it. But this is an absolutely subjective point. In black metal, I prefer other solutions, probably more obvious, traditional solutions. I really liked Amalthei's oldschool sound, vocals, although the structure of the composition itself was not to my liking. In a word, everything is fine, but not this form, not these notes. If someone likes black/death metal, which deviates a bit from these already well-established forms, Amaltheia will be an interesting challenge. The album will be totally unpredictable for you.

Yfel 1710 / Martwa Aura - Kali Yuga Boys (Under the Sign of Garazel 2022)

Kilka dni temu trafił do mnie split Yfel 1710 oraz Martwej Aury o osobliwej nazwie "Kali Yuga Boys". Ciekaw byłem, co nowego zaproponują oba zespoły, zwłaszcza Yfel 1710, który 2 lata temu miał znakomite wejście swoim debiutanckim albumem "Willa Wisielców". A Martwa Aura, wiadomo, wymiotła swoim "Morbus Animus". No, ale do rzeczy. Już od pierwszych kanonad wystrzelonych przez oba zespoły widać, że forma jest, a co ważniejsze ten sam wysoki poziom kompozycji, co na ostatnich ich dokonaniach. To nie ulega wątpliwości. Yfel 1710, jak to na nich przystało, zaserwował cztery agresywne numery, pełne energii, wściekłości, który podbijają teksty wykrzyczane po polsku. Natomiast Martwa Aura zabalansowała całość dwoma rozbudowanymi kompozycjami z ogromem klimatu, mroku i po raz kolejny, znakomitymi solowymi partiami gitar, którym dano tzw. swoje pięć minut. Zespół potrafił tymi dwoma numerami zarówno zaczarować atmosferą, odrobiną refleksyjności, aby zaraz przywalić cysterną siarki. Brzmieniowo też u obu grup zastrzeżeń brak. Oba zespoły zabrzmiały mocno, z konkretnym mięchem. Słuchało mi się tego dobrze, aczkolwiek ten split spotka pewnie ten sam los, co inne, które posiadam czy posiadałem. Zawsze jest to kilka pierwszych odsłuchów i potem na ogół do nich nie wracam, od tej reguły rzadko kiedy trafia się wyjątek. Jakoś nie przepadam za tą formą wydawniczą. Wolę pełne albumy i epki, może ze względu na to, że jak odpalam płytę, to mam ochotę na jeden konkretny zespół, od początku do końca. No, ale dość tego wtrącenia. Jeżeli ktoś lubi splity i oba wyżej wymienione zespoły, to wstydem będzie nie polecić, więc tak, jak najbardziej polecam, bo to obiektywnie bardzo dobry materiał.

A few days ago I received a split of Yfel 1710 and Martwa Aura under a peculiar title "Kali Yuga Boys". I was curious what new both bands would propose, especially Yfel 1710, which two years ago had a great entrance with their debut album "Willa Wisielców". And Martwa Aura, you know, made their greatest opus "Morbus Animus". Well, to the point. From the very first cannons launched by both bands, it can be seen that they are in very good creative form, and more importantly, the present  the same high level of composition as in their recent achievements. This is beyond doubt. Yfel 1710, as befits them, served four aggressive tracks, full of energy and fury, which is boosted by lyrics shouted out in Polish. On the other hand, Martwa Aura balanced the whole with two extensive compositions with an enormous atmosphere, darkness and, once again, excellent solo guitar parts, which were given the so-called their five minutes. With these two tracks, the band was able to both enchant with the atmosphere, a bit of reflection, and then hit with the cistern of sulfur. In terms of sound, both groups did their best. Both bands sounded strong, with specific heaviness. It was nice to listen to, although this split will probably meet the same fate as others that I have or had. It is always the first few listening sessions and then I usually do not come back to them, an exception is rarely made from this rule. Somehow I do not like this release form. I prefer full albums and EPs, maybe because when I play an album, I want one particular band, from beginning to end. But enough of this interjection. If someone likes splits and both of the above-mentioned bands, it will be a shame not to recommend it, so I recommend it as much as possible, because it is objectively a very good material.

Wan - Antichristian Douchebags (Fallen Temple 2022)

Fallen Temple ma w swoim katalogu kilka perełek wydawniczych i w tym roku do tych najlepszych dołącza szwedzki Wan ze swoim nowym albumem "Antichristian Douchebgs". Wan to zespół, który zdążył już okrzepnąć na scenie i od lat wykuwa swój bluźnierczy black metal, do którego zaszczepia elementy thrashu i punka. I tak, ten styl grania albo się kocha, albo nienawidzi. Jest prosto, z energią i bezpośredniością, według utartych już reguł. Wszystko brzmi jak Pan Diabeł przykazał. Wokale, znakomite riffy, te przeplatające się inspiracje okolone cały czas duchem Pierwszej Fali. Jest w tym coś z naszego Mordhell, jest późne Carpathian Forest, a nawet jakieś punkty zbieżne ze szwedzkim War, czyli niegdysiejszymi kolegami ze sceny. "Antichristian Douchebgs" jest z gatunku tych płyt, które zdobywają upodobanie słuchaczy swoją formą, wiernością stylowi, konsekwencją, no i właśnie tym bezpośrednim podejściem do grania metalu. Tu nikt nie popisuje się umiejętnościami, nie szuka "pomysłowych rozwiązań", nie sili się na melodyjki, które mają zebrać jak największe grono słuchaczy. Wan i ich granie skierowane jest do tych, którzy szukają w metalu energii, konkretnej estetyki i nawiązań. Dlatego też ten album tak bardzo do mnie przemówił i w chwili obecnej nie wychodzi z odtwarzacza. Dla mnie materiał z tych do, których się wraca. Polecam!

Fallen Temple has several publishing gems in its catalog and this year the Swedish Wan joins the best ones with their new album "Antichristian Douchebgs". Wan is a band that has already established itself on the scene and has been forging their blasphemous black metal for years, to which they instill elements of thrash and punk. And yes, this style of playing is either loved or hated. It is simple, with energy and directness, according to the already well-established rules. Everything sounds like the Lord the Devil has commanded. Vocals, great riffs, these intertwining inspirations surrounded all the time with the spirit of the First Wave. There is something from Polish Mordhell ​​in it, there is the late Carpathian Forest, and even some points coinciding with the Swedish War, i.e. former stage colleagues. "Antichristian Douchebgs" is one of those albums which the listeners like for their form, faithfulness to style, consistency, and this direct approach to playing metal. Here no one shows off his extra skills, does not look for "inventive solutions", he does not try to use melodies that are written to gathered as many listeners as possible. Wan and their playing is aimed at those who are looking for energy, specific aesthetics and references in metal. That's why this album appeal to me so much, and it's not coming out of the CD player right now. For me, material from those you come back to. Recommended!

Ohyda - Ohyda Spustoszenia (Wolfspell Records 2022)

Ogłaszam plebiscyt na najbardziej obskurny, brudny, bluźnierczy i posępny materiał roku 2022 jednocześnie go kończąc i wyłaniając zwycięzcę - Ohydę. Ohyda to nowy zespół powołany przez dobrze znany w podziemiu duet, jakim jest Bloodwhip oraz Diabolizer. Do pełni składu Panowie dobrali wokalistę Necheshetriona (Blackphlegm, Halo of Miasma) i układanka zakończona. Owa nieświęta trójca powołuje do życia EP "Ohyda Spustoszenia" (hej, czy przypadkiem angielska wersja tytułu nie jest celowa - "Abomintion of Desolation"?). Czego można spodziewać się od muzyków tworzących takie zespoły, jak Moloch Letalis, Mordhell, Goathrone, Morbid Winds czy Zmora? A no tego, co w oldschoolowym, surowym metalu najlepsze! "Ohyda Spustoszenia" trwa 23 minuty i jest to metal, black metal, który wypełza do słuchacza z najgłębszych piwnic i ocieka wszystkim, co złe i skalane. Wolne i średnie riffy napędzają posępną, pełną grozy grobową atmosferę w miarowy rytm bębnów Diabolizera, a opętańcze, zawodzące wokale dopełniają dzieła. Do tego dostajemy również polskie teksty, także utwory nabierają jeszcze większego wyrazu i klimatu. Ohyda nie powiela muzyki granej przez jakikolwiek zespół jej twórców, ale zawierając różne ich cząstki przedstawia możliwie najbardziej obskurną ich formę. Wychodzi z tego piekielnie dobra, muzyczna bestia. Czekam na pełen album!

Ohyda is a new band formed by the well-known underground duo, Bloodwhip and Diabolizer. The gentlemen selected the singer Necheshetrion (Blackphlegm, Halo of Miasma) and the puzzle was completed. This unholy trinity brings to life the EP "Ohyda Spustoszenia" (hey, is the english version of this title "Abomination of Desolation" a coincidence?). What can you expect from musicians forming such bands as Moloch Letalis, Mordhell, Goathrone, Morbid Winds or Zmora? Everything that is best in oldschool, raw metal! "Ohyda Spustoszenia" lasts 23 minutes and is metal, black metal that crawls into the listener from the deepest cellars and oozes all that is evil and tainted. The slow and medium riffs fuel the gloomy, eerie mortuary atmosphere to the steady beat of the Diabolizer's drums. The haunted, wailing vocals complete the piece. We also get Polish lyrics, and the songs gain even more expression and atmosphere. Ohyda does not reproduce the music played by any band of its creators, but by containing their various particles, it presents the most obscure form of them as possible. It turns out to be a hell of a good musical beast. I'm waiting for the full-length album!

Akathartos - Baptized by Darkness (Under the Sign of Garazel 2021)

Nie mogę przeboleć faktu, że nie zakręciłem się za tą płytą w ubiegłym roku. Jestem przekonany, że wylądowałaby w podsumowaniu roku prześcigając jakiś inny wybrany przeze mnie album. No, ale trudno, ważne, że ostatecznie wpadła mi w łapy. Zatem do rzeczy, mili Państwo. Debiut Akathartos to płyta z gatunku tych, które autentycznie mają w sobie diabła. To sztuka na wskroś przesiąknięta okultyzmem i mrokiem, to muzyczny manifest zła, czerni i obłędu. Śmiem twierdzić, że to nawet coś więcej niż stricte black metal. Poza tą muzyką w swojej pierwotnej, surowej i bezkompromisowej formie, znajdziecie tu elementy dark ambientu, ale i dźwięków, które mogą towarzyszyć wszelakim rytuałom i misteriom, atmosfera jest tu niesamowita - dzwony, inkantacje, wrzaski. Dostajemy tu 28 minut mrocznej sztuki najwyższej próby! Jeżeli miałbym wskazać twory jakkolwiek oscylujące wokół tego, co stworzył Akathartos na "Baptized by Darkness", to mógłbym wymienić Void Meditation Cult, Demoncy, Serpent Ritual czy Hellvetron. Dodatkowo unosi się nad tym surowizna i bluźnierstwo spod znaku Perverted Ceremony, Xarzebaal, Beherit oraz szaleństwo Abruptum. Bez tego muzyka ta nie miałaby aż takiego efektu na słuchaczu. Niemniej, co pragnę od razu zaznaczyć, żadna z tych grup nie gra tak samo jak Akathartos, ani też omawiany zespół nie jest klonem wymienionych aktów. To są tylko pewne cechy wspólne mające nakreślić wam obraz tego, czego możecie się tu spodziewać. Moim zdaniem Akathartos udało się stworzyć to, czego tym grupom w ostatecznym rozrachunku zabrakło. Mamy tu wypadkową wszystkiego, czego można byłoby oczekiwać w tego typu sztuce. Składniki muzyki Akathartos oraz ich balans stworzyły dzieło moim zdaniem idealne! Czekam na kolejną ich płytę, a na razie ponownie zanurzam się w otchłań "Baptized by Darkness".

Well, the most important thing is that it finally fell into my hands. So to the point, ladies and gentlemen. Akathartos' debut is an album in the genre of those that genuinely have the devil in them. This art is thoroughly saturated with occultism and darkness, it is a musical manifesto of evil, blackness and madness. I dare to say that it is even something more than strictly black metal. In addition to this music in its original, raw and uncompromising form, you will find here elements of dark ambient, but also sounds that can accompany all rituals and mysteries, the atmosphere here is amazing - bells, chants, screams. We get 28 minutes of dark art of the highest order here! If I were to point out creations in any way oscillating around what Akathartos created on "Baptized by Darkness", I could mention Void Meditation Cult, Demoncy, Serpent Ritual or Hellvetron. However, as I would like to point out right away, neither of these groups play the same stuff as Akathartos, nor is this band a clone of the acts mentioned. These are just some commonalities to give you a picture of what to expect here. In my opinion, Akathartos managed to create what these groups ultimately lacked. We have here the resultant of everything that could be expected in this type of art. The ingredients of Akathartos music and their balance created a perfect piece in my opinion! I'm waiting for their next album, and for now I'm plunging back into the abyss of "Baptized by Darkness".

Malediction of Agony - Malediction of Agony (Putrid Cult 2022)

Ależ to jest cios! Pierwsza w tym roku tak powalająca premiera w ramach black metalu! Gdańskie Malediction of Agony idzie na swoim debiucie szlakiem przetartym przez takie grupy jak Horna, Satanic Warmaster, Sargeist, Musta Surma czy White Death. Zatem fińska szkoła w polskim wydaniu. Z tym, że zespół brzmi bardzo potężnie. Rozkręciłem album na cały regulator i ten materiał po prostu niszczy. Płyta niemal rozwala ściany! Jej nostalgiczne, bardziej melodyjne momenty (jak fińska scena jest inspiracją, to tego zabraknąć nie może), ale i te siarczyste i surowe nabierają w takim wydaniu niesamowitej mocy. I jeszcze ten wokal w stylu Ihsahna z pierwszych dwóch materiałów Emperor czy też Nazgul ze wcześniej wspomnianej Horny/SW! Płytę wieńczy ambientowy "Demons Winter", który to z kolei przypomina bardzo swą estetyką "Tomhet" Burzum. Co tu dużo mówić, słucha się tego wybornie! Zespół zaserwował tu prawdziwą black metalową ucztę. I jeżeli ten album nie pojawi się w podsumowaniach na koniec roku, to po prostu zwątpię w fanów tej sztuki i gusta ludzi. Na koniec, chcąc być dokładnym, materiał został pierwotnie wydany na kasecie już rok temu przez Warm Moon Records, a dopiero teraz doczekał się edycji na CD. Z tego, co wiem, kaseta wciąż jest do dorwania, jeżeli ktoś taki nośnik preferuje. W każdym razie, ten album bezapelacyjnie trzeba mieć.

What a great stuff it is! This year's first such a stunning premiere in terms of black metal! On its debut, Malediction of Agony from Gdańsk (Poland) follows a trail that was cleared by groups such as Horna, Satanic Warmaster, Sargeist, Musta Surma and White Death. So the Finnish school of playing in the Polish version. Except that the band sounds very powerful. I turned the album on full blast and this material just destroys. The sound almost smashes the walls! Its nostalgic, more melodic moments (if the Finnish scene is an inspiration, it cannot be missed), but also the bitter and raw ones gain incredible power in such a form. And that vocals in the style of Ihsahn from the first two Emperor releases or Nazgul from the aforementioned Horna/SW! The album is crowned with ambient "Demons Winter", which with its aesthetics reminds me of "Tomhet" by Burzum. What can I say, it's great to listen to! The band serves a real black metal feast here. And if this album will not appear in the end-of-year summaries, I will simply doubt the fans of this art and the tastes of people. Finally, to be exact, the material was originally released on cassette a year ago by Warm Moon Records, and now it's finally released on CD. As far as I know, the cassette can still be found, if someone prefers this form. Anyway, this album is a must-have.

Black Altar / Vulture Lord - Deathiah Manifesto (Odium Records 2022)

Na tę premierę czekałem! To już któryś z kolei split w dorobku Black Altar, a jak dobrze wiem Shadow bardzo lubię taką formę wydawniczą. Tym razem jego zespół sprzymierzył się z Vulture Lord. Część należąca do Black Altar to premierowy materiał. No nie powiem, ten zespół urósł przez lata. Stawał się w swej black metalowej sztuce coraz lepszy pod względem kompozytorskim i technicznym i te dwa utwory - "Scrilegious Congregation" oraz "Nyx" (intra i outra nie liczę, a też są potężne - nagrane przez Ludo "Evil" Lejeune) są tego najlepszym dowodem. Mimo sentymentu i uwielbienia dla debiutanckiej płyty, potrafię docenić to muzyczne doskonalenie będąc wciąż wiernym tej prawdziwej black metalowej formule. Zwłaszcza utwór "Nyx" jest dla mnie sposób wyjątkowy. Ma kapitalny, lekko melodyjny riff przewodni, a partia gitar jest na swój sposób przestrzenna, co dobrze współgra z warstwą wokalną wzbogaconą lekkim echem. No i bas ma tu swoje pięć minut w jednym fragmencie. Warto też wspomnieć, że perkusję do tych utworów nagrał James Stewart z Vader. Black Altar zrobił tu olbrzymie preludium do nadchodzącej powoli nowej płyty, której nie mogę się doczekać. Jeżeli Shadow wraz z nowo skompletowanym zespołem , a zwłaszcza z Lesem (Hell-Born, ex Damnation, , ex Behemoth) na gitarze pójdzie w muzyczne rejony z tego splitu, to szykuje nam się wyborny krążek.

Cztery utwory zaserwowane przez Vulture Lord to: "Dominions of Death" (cover Vulcano!) oraz "Hark! The Hymns of War" nagrane podczas sesji do ostatniej płyty, wcześniejsza, oryginalna wersja jednego z utworów z "Desecration Rite" - "Bloodstained Ritualknives" (nowy tytuł to "Bloodbound Militia") - nagrany już częściowo przez Nefasa, z jego wokalami oraz jeszcze jeden numer premierowy - "Usurper, "Thy Name is Death". Zespół prezentuje tu brzmienia znane już dobrze z nowej płyty oraz estetykę grania, którą słyszeliśmy już na ich poprzednich materiałach. To oldschoolowy black metal okraszony black/thrashowym brudem i chwytliwością. To typowy metalowy wpierdol w ich stylu! Należącą do nich splitu Vulture Lord na dobre przypieczętował swój powrót!

I've been waiting for this premiere! This is another split in the discography of Black Altar, and as I know Shadow he really likes this form of publishing. This time his band has allied with Vulture Lord. The part belonging to Black Altar is a premiere material. I won't say, this band has grown over the years. It was getting better and better in their black metal art in terms of composition and technique, and these two songs - "Scrilegious Congregation" and "Nyx" (I don't count the intros and outros, but they are also powerful - created by Ludo "Evil" Lejeune) are the best proof of that. Despite the sentiment and admiration for the debut album, I can appreciate this musical perfection, being still faithful to this true black metal formula. Especially the song "Nyx" is unique to me. It has a brilliant, slightly melodic leading riff, and the guitar part is spatial in its own way, which harmonizes well with the vocal layer enriched with a slight echo. And the bass has its five minutes in one fragment. Black Altar did this enormous prelude to the slowly upcoming new album, which I am looking forward to. If Shadow, with the newly completed band, especially with Les (Hell-Born, ex Damnation, ex Behemoth) on guitar, will continue to explore the musical regions of this split, it will be a hell of a release.

Four songs served by Vulture Lord are: "Dominions of Death" (cover of Vulcano!) and "Hark! The Hymns of War" recorded during the session for the last album, an earlier, original version of one of the songs from "Desecration Rite" - "Bloodstained Ritualknives" (newly entitled "Bloodbound Militia") - already partially recorded by Nefas, with his vocals, and one more premiere number - "Usurper," Thy Name is Death ". The band presents here the sounds already known from the last album and the aesthetics of playing, which we have already heard from them on their previous materials. It's oldschool black metal with black/thrash dirt and catchiness. It's a typical metal punch in their characteristic style! The Vulture Lord's part of the split has sealed their comeback for good!

Imsar - Ciemra Pierad Zołkam (Werewolf Promotion 2022)

Białoruski Imsar nie jest specjalnie dobrze znanym i rozpoznawanym zespołem, raczej działa sobie w swojej niszy i tylko zorientowani w temacie znają i słuchają. W tym roku Werewolf Promotion wydał trzeci album grupy. Co tu dużo mówić, Imsar można spokojnie uznać za jeden z najlepszych przykładów słowiańskiego, pogańskiego black metalu i tego, co ten styl reprezentuje pod względem zarówno tekstowym, jak i muzycznym. Oczywiście są tu również drobne elementy folkowe, nie mogło tego zabraknąć, ale są one tylko ozdobnikiem do wiodących prym intensywnych, typowych dla black metalu, acz melodyjnych, partii gitar i miażdżącej sekcji rytmicznej. Kompozycje mają tu też trochę epickości i patosu Bathory oraz Graveland. Są w tle chóry i te charakterystyczne grzmiące bębny, jakie kiedyś pokazano nam na płycie "Hammerhart". Wiecie o co chodzi. No i w kwestii wokalnej mamy tu nie tylko black metalowe, złowieszcze dźwięki, ale partie zaśpiewane czystym głosem z lekką nutą melodii, co z kolei przypomniało mi rosyjską Arkonę. Reasumując, jest czego słuchać i tak jak wspomniałem, znajdziecie tu wszystko, co w tym gatunku najlepsze. Warto jeszcze wspomnieć o bardzo klimatycznej oprawie graficznej płyty. Bardzo podobną estetykę wykorzystuje również Wędrujący Wiatr, ale tam mamy akcenty przede wszystkim związane z naturą, natomiast na "Ciemra Pierad Zołkam" mamy elementy związane również z historią i mitologią, mroczne akcenty też się tu pojawiają. Kojarzy mi się to bardzo ze starym rosyjskim kinem historycznym oraz bajkami będącymi ekranizacjami słowiańskich legend i bajek. Idealnie współgra to z muzyką Imsar i dodaje sporo do atmosfery płyty. Warto się z tym materiałem zapoznać. Jest to dopiero druga czy trzecia tegoroczna nowość, której piszę i jak na razie najciekawsza.

This year, Werewolf Promotion released the group's third album. What can I say, Imsar can safely be considered one of the best examples of Slavic, pagan black metal and what this style represents in terms of both lyrics and music. Of course, there are also small folk elements here, it could not be missing, but they are only an ornament to the leading intense, typical for black metal, but melodious, guitar parts and a crushing rhythm section. The compositions here also have a bit of epicness and pathos similar to Bathory and Graveland. There are choirs in the background and those characteristic thunder-like drums that were once shown on the album "Hammerhart". You know what' I'm talking about. And in terms of vocals, we have here not only black metal, sinister sounds, but parts sung with a clear voice with a slight hint of melody as well, which in turn reminded me of the Russian Arkona. In summary, there is a lot to listen to and, as I mentioned, you will find here everything that is the best in this genre. It is also worth mentioning the very atmospheric graphic design of the album. Wędrujący Wiatr also uses very similar aesthetics, but there we have accents mainly related to nature, while on "Ciemra Pierad Zołkam" we have elements related to history and mythology, dark accents also appear here. I associate it with the old Russian historical cinema and fairy tales which are screen adaptations of Slavic legends and myths. It harmonizes perfectly with the music of Imsar and adds a lot to the atmosphere of the album. It is worth checking this material. This is only the second or third new release from this year that I am writing about and so far the most interesting.

Kalmankantaja - Metsauhri (Wolfspell Records 2022)

Kalmankantaja jest niezwykle płodnym zespołem. Każdego roku raczy nas średnio trzema wydawnictwami. Nie zawsze jest to fizyczny nośnik, ale w większości tak. Nie znam całości ich dyskografii, przyznaję, a zaledwie ostatnie ich materiały. Ich muzyką zacząłem się nieco interesować dopiero w ubiegłym roku, a do szerszej eksploracji popchnął mnie dopiero wydany w styczniu "Metsauhri", który trafił do mnie wraz z pocztą niemal zaraz po premierze. Album w pierwszej kolejności skojarzył mi się z dawną twórczością Burzum. Ma bardzo undergroundowy i nostalgiczny klimat. Są w nim spore echa klasyków w postaci "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" oraz "Filosofem", a nawet "For All Tid" Dimmu Borgir z tym zacięciem do tęsknych melodii. Atmosfera budowana jest tutaj w bardzo podobny sposób, są te znakomite klawiszowe tła i melancholijne melodie. Wokal też ma ten efekt przytłumionego megafonu, jak właśnie na "Filosofem". Utwory utrzymane są w średnich i wolnych tempach. Dzięki temu całość materiału spójnie płynie przez całą długość płyty budując jeden muzyczny pejzaż. Mimowolnie, słuchając "Metsauhri", widzę przed oczyma skandynawskie ostępy w interpretacji Theodora Kittelsena. Okładka płyty, choć stworzona przez kogoś innego (Hellish Razor), swą estetyką zdaje się nieco nawiązywać do twórczości przed chwilą wspomnianego artysty. I żeby było jasne, Kalmankantaja nie jest tu klonem Burzum, ani żadnego podobnego zespołu. Na w swój własny sposób eksploruje i tworzy w tej estetyce i podobnym brzmieniu i wychodzi im to znakomicie. Słyszałem już klony twórczości Varga, ale ta płyta klonem nie jest. Mamy tu długie, majestatyczne utwory, które piszą swoją własną historię i potrafią niezaprzeczalnie wciągnąć słuchacza w swą opowieść. Bardzo dobry i pełen klimatu materiał!

Kalmankantaja is an extremely productive band. Each year, they treats us with an average of three releases. It's not always a physical issue, but mostly it is. I do not know all of their discography, I admit, but only the last of their materials. I started to get interested in their music a bit more only in the last year, and I was pushed to explore more with the arrival "Metsauhri", which came to me with the mail almost immediately after its premiere in January. First of all, the album reminded me of the former works of Burzum. It has a very underground and nostalgic atmosphere. There are many echoes of the classics in the form of "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" and "Filosofem", and even "For All Tid" by Dimmu Borgir with this verve to longing melodies. The atmosphere is built here in a very similar way, there are excellent keyboard backgrounds and melancholic melodies. The vocals also have this muffled megaphone effect, just like on "Filosofem". The tracks are kept in medium and slow tempos. Thanks to this, the entire material flows coherently along the entire length of the album, building one musical landscape. Involuntarily, while listening to "Metsauhri", I can see the Scandinavian backwoods in the interpretation by Theodor Kittelsen. The cover of the album, although created by someone else (Hellish Razor), with its aesthetics seems to refer a bit to the work of the aforementioned artist. And to be clear, Kalmankantaja is not a clone of Burzum or any other similar band. They explore and create in this aesthetics and similar sound in their own way, and they do it brilliantly. I've heard clones of Varg's works, but this album is not a clone. We have long, majestic pieces that write their own story and can undeniably draw the listener into their depth. Very good material full of great atmosphere!
