Angelgoat - The Lucifer Within (Morbid Chapel Records 2020)

Kolejny black metalowy wyziew z tego roku, który wypuszcza swoim sumptem nasza Morbid Chapel Records. Angelgoat to jednoosobowy projekt z Serbii. Ma już na koncie dwa albumy, dwa dema i split z Sinah i Charnel Valley. Pamiętam, że zapoznałem się już z nimi wiele lat temu , w 2009, wydali wtedy na taśmie "U Slavu Satane". Pamiętam, że całkiem mi się to podobało i kasetka trochę w odtwarzaczu pogościła i nie wykluczone, że coś o niej pisałem w którymś ze swoich starych zinów. To co znajdziecie na "The Lucifer Within" to granie na pograniczu tradycyjnego Black Metalu spod znaku Norwegii/Szwecji oraz bardziej obskurnego, bluźnierczego w stylu Archgoat, Beherit, Blasphemy. Jest smoliście, duszno, surowo, ale na szczęście te wolniejsze numery przeplatają się z szybszymi, co nieco urozmaica materiał. Koła się tutaj nie odkrywa, ale materiał jest na tyle dobry w swojej niszy, solidnie i z wyczuciem nagrany, że warto o nim wspomnieć i nawet zachęcić do odsłuchu. Słychać, że twórca czuje klimat i przelewa swą pasję do tej muzyki w czyn i piekielne dźwięki. Fani bardziej oldschoolowych, mniej wykalkulowanych i, nie oszukujmy się, prostych brzmień w ramach Black Metalu będę tutaj mieli czego posłuchać. Podziemne, bezkompromisowe granie! Tylko tyle i aż tyle!

Another Black Metal stuff from this year that our Morbid Chapel Records releases. Angelgoat is a one-man project from Serbia. It already has two albums, two demos and a split with Sinah and Charnel Valley issued. I remember that I got familiar with Angelgoat many years ago, in 2009, they released "U Slavu Satane" on tape back then. I remember that I liked it quite a bit and the cassette spent some time in the casette player and it is possible that I wrote something about it in one of my old zines. What you will find on "The Lucifer Within" is an art on the border of traditional Black Metal under the sign of Norway/Sweden and more obscure, blasphemous one in the style of Archgoat, Beherit, Blasphemy. It is tarry, fuggy, raw, but fortunately these slower tracks are mixed with faster, which slightly diversifies the material. The wheel is not discovered here, but the material is so good in its niche, well recorded that it is worth mentioning and even encouraging to listen to. You can hear that the artist feels the atmosphere and sheds his passion for this music into action and this hellish sounds. Fans of more oldschool, less calculated and, let's face it, simple sounds of Black Metal will have something to listen to here. Underground, uncompromising stuff! No more, no less!

Impenetrable Darkness - Loyalty in Blackness (Morbid Chapel Records / Total War 2018)

Grecy z Impenetrable Darkness mają do tej pory na swoim koncie tylko jeden pełny materiał, wydany pierwotnie w 2014 roku. Dwa lata temu, dzięki sojuszowi Morbid Chapel Records oraz Total War, płyta pojawiła się ponownie w formacie CD i nie ma zdziwienia dlaczego. To naprawdę znakomity kawał black metalowej sztuki. Aż dziwię się, że zespół nie wypłynął do tej pory na szersze wody. Cieszę się, że udało mi się na nią trafić, co umożliwiło równocześnie przybliżenie jej również Wam. Przede wszystkim jest to granie ze sporą dawką klimatu i tym lekko atmosferyczno-melodyjnym podejściem do zagadnienia. Płytę balansują ciekawe, zapadające w pamięć riffy i melodie przeplatane zajadłymi pasażami, odpowiednią jak na tę muzykę dawką chaosu. Materiał wciąga i na swój sposób jest kolejnym reprezentantem greckich brzmień w zakresie Black Metalu. Jeżeli miałbym doszukiwać się czegoś podobnego do grania prezentowanego przez Impenetrable Darkness, to z pewnością wymieniłbym tutaj Watain, Dissection, Cult of Fire, Urfaust, a z samej Grecji Acherontas czy nawet Varathron. Zatem kto lubi styl i estetykę, w jakiej poruszają się przed chwilą wymienione zespoły, to z pewnością znajdzie coś dla siebie na "Loyalty in Blackness". To ciekawy, ambitny i dobrze wyprodukowany materiał. Jak ktoś lubi surowiznę i piwniczne brzmienie, to raczej niewłaściwy adres. Tutaj mamy do czynienia z dziełem, któremu niezbędna jest doszlifowana oprawa, aby materiał zabrzmiał i zaprezentował słuchaczowi wszystkie swoje walory, a ma ich trochę. Ze swojej strony polecam bardzo.
Dla fanów kaset magnetofonowych też jest dobra nowina. W razie gdyby ktoś był zainteresowany owym albumem na tym nośniku, to "Loyalty in Blackness" niedługo pojawi się również w tym formacie. Wydawcą będzie oczywiście Morbid Chapel Records.

The Greeks from Impenetrable Darkness have so far only one full material, originally released in 2014. Two years ago, thanks to the alliance of Morbid Chapel Records and Total War, the album re-appeared in CD format and it is not surprising why. It's a really great piece of Black Metal art. I'm surprised that the band hasn't reached into wider audience yet. I am glad that I was able to find them, which at the same time made it possible to present their music to you. First of all, it is stuff with a large dose of climate and this slightly atmospheric and melodic approach to the issue. The album is balanced with interesting riffs and melodies mixed with fiery passages, a dose of chaos appropriate for this music. The material draws in and in its own way is another representative of Greek sounds in the field of Black Metal. If I were to look for something similar to the music presented by Impenetrable Darkness, I would certainly mention Watain, Dissection, Cult of Fire, Urfaust, and from Greece - Acherontas or even Varathron. So who likes the style and aesthetics in which the bands just mentioned move, they will certainly find something for themselves on "Loyalty in Blackness". This is an interesting, ambitious and well-produced material. If you like raw stuff and basement-like sounds, this is the wrong address. Here we are dealing with a work that requires a polished production so that the material sounds and presents all its qualities to the listener, and there is plenty to offer. I recommend it totally.
There are also some good news for fans of cassette tapes. In case someone is interested in this album in this format, "Loyalty in Blackness" will soon appear as an MC. The publisher will of course be Morbid Chapel Records.

Morbid Winds - The Ruin of Forgotten Desolation (Morbid Chapel Records 2020)

"The Ruin of Forgotten Desolation" to - obok materiału Dead Dog's Howl - najciekawsze demo, jakie słyszałem w tym roku. Weszło z marszu i bez popity! Morbid Winds, mimo surowości i nieco piwnicznego brzmienia zaserwował kapitalną podróż w odmęty wczesnej sceny lat 90. czy po prostu w rejony, które budowały niegdyś ekstremalne granie, ale z nową energią, własną wizją i niesamowitym wyczuciem klimatu jej towarzyszącemu. Te brudne, acz chwytliwe i dające się zapamiętać riffy podbija świetna surowa perkusja (szacun zarówno dla Bloodwhipa, jak i Diabolizera) i klawiszowe tła w stylu bardzo wczesnego Emperor i demówek Limbonic Art. Połączenie kapitalne! Coś jakby synteza "Under a Funeral Moon" z "Wrath of the Tyrant" / "Moon in the Scorpio", tyle że w demówkowym brzmieniu. Do tego dochodzą jeszcze szorstkie wokale Cryptic Lust'a i dostajemy Black Metal w prawdziwym tego słowa znaczeniu. Sześć kompozycji i ponad dwadzieścia minut grania, które nie ma prawa się znudzić czy nie wciągnąć fana podziemnego grania i takowego też Black Metalu. No nie ma na to szans! I nie dajcie się zwieść zdobiącej demo topornej okładce. Może i świadczy ona o tym, że produkcyjnie może to kuleć - i w sumie szału nie ma (nie musi być), a i że zespół niespecjalnie szuka atencji, gdzie się da. W tym cały tego urok. Szczere, bezkompromisowe i porywające granie w temacie. Kto nie ma, niech kupuje, kto nie słuchał, niech w te pędy nadrabia zaległości. Warto!

"The Ruin of Forgotten Desolation", next to Dead Dog's Howl stuff, is the most interesting demo I've heard this year. It just appealed to me instantly! Morbid Winds, despite the rawness and slightly basement-like sound, served a fantastic journey into the depths of the early 90s scene, or simply into areas that once built extreme art, but with new energy, their own vision and an amazing sense of the climate accompanying it. These dirty, but catchy and memorable riffs are joined by great raw drums (respect to both Bloodwhip and Diabolizer) and keyboard backgrounds in the style of very early Emperor and Limbonic Art demos. Something like a synthesis of "Under a Funeral Moon" with "Wrath of the Tyrant" / "Moon in the Scorpio", but with a demo sound. Added to this are rough Cryptic Lust vocals and we get Black Metal in the true sense of this word. Six compositions and over twenty minutes of playing, which has no right to get you bored or not catch an interest of underground metal fan and such style of Black Metal. There is simply no chance! And don't be fooled by the obscure cover. Maybe it proves that this stuff can lack good production - actually there's nothing extraordinary in this matter here (there doesn't have to be), and that the band doesn't really look for attention wherever they can. But that's the charm of it. Honest, uncompromising and thrilling stuff in the subject. Whoever does not have it, buy it, whoever did not listen to it, check it out! It's worth it!
