Stormkeep - Tales of Othertime (Van Records 2021)

Nie powstał w tym roku na niwie melodyjnego black metalu lepszy krążek, niż debiutancki longplay Stormkeep. Podeszło mi to nawet lepiej niż drugi album Warmoon Lord. Największym atutem "Tales of Othertime" jest nie tylko brzmienie, ale przede wszystkim nośność tego albumu. Płyta ma ogrom melodii, fajnych riffów, a jednocześnie te numery są długie i sporo się w nich dzieje. Raz jest szybko i złowieszczo, raz wolniej i bardzo klimatycznie, epicko. No i te wampiryczne wokale! Są tu oczywiście klawisze, chórki, jest akcent dungeon synthowy (podobnie jak na EPce, z tym, że tutaj mamy dwa takie utwory i jest to jak najbardziej na plus) no i miesza się tu wiele motywów, które znajdzie się w muzyce innych zespołów i które zostały tu bardzo misternie wplecione nadając sztuce Stormkeep nowego wymiaru i jakości. Momentami usłyszeć można elementy ze starych płyt Keep of Kalessin, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir z czasów "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" czy nawet debiutu Children of Bodom (!). Jeżeli chodzi o styl Stormkeep są to inspiracje bardzo oryginalne. Rzecz jasna fondament muzyki to melodyjny black metal z drugiej połowy lat 90. Dla entuzjastów wczesnych dzieł Siebenburgen, wspomnianego Keep of Kalessin oraz Dimmu Borgir, Troll, Sacramentum, Odium czy późniejszych płyt Obtained Enslavement, ta płyta to po prostu mus. Album wciąga i bez wątpienia daje się zapamiętać. Ja będę do niego wracał nie raz. Bardzo dobry odzew w podziemiu i, w chwili obecnej, wyprzedany już cały nakład winyli oraz CD tylko moje słowa potwierdza. W zestawieniu mojej najlepszej piątki tego roku, ten album znajdzie się na pewno!

Jako bonus, do płyty został dodany drugi krążek zatytułowany "Lost Relics". Znajdziecie tu ponad 22 minuty dungeon synthowego materiału z najwyższej półki. Pięć instrumentalnych kompozycji, które pięknie dopełniają "Tales of Othertime".

This year, in the field of melodic black metal, there is no better album than Stormkeep's debut longplay. It was even better for me than the second Warmoon Lord album. The biggest advantage of "Tales of Othertime" is not only the sound, but most of all the carrying capacity of this album. The album has a lot of melodies, nice riffs, and at the same time these tracks are long and there is a lot going on in them. Sometimes it's fast and ominous, sometimes slower and very atmospheric, even epic. And those vampire-like vocals! Of course, there are keyboards, choirs, there is a dungeon synth accent (similar to the EP, but here we have two such compositions and it is definitely an advantage) and there are many elements mixed here that can be found in the music of other bands and which have been very intricately compiled here, giving Stormkeep's art a new dimension and quality. At times you can hear inspirations from the old albums of Keep of Kalessin, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir from the times of "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" or even the Children of Bodom debut (!). When it comes to the style of Stormkeep, these inspirations are very original in the context of their music. Of course, the fondament is melodic black metal from the second half of the 90s. For enthusiasts of early works by Siebenburgen, the aforementioned Keep of Kalessin and Dimmu Borgir, Troll, Sacramentum, Odium or later Obtained Enslavement albums, this record is simply a must. The album is captivating and undoubtedly memorable. I will come back to it more than once for sure. A very good response in the underground and, at the moment, the sold-out status of the whole press of vinyls and CDs, only confirm my words. In the list of my top five releases of this year, this album will definitely be found! As a bonus, a second CD entitled "Lost Relics" was added to the album. Here you will find over 22 minutes of dungeon synth material of the highest quality. Five instrumental compositions that beautifully complement "Tales of Othertime".
