Thurthul - Fury of Ancient Race (Dark Omens Production 2020)

Kolejny "tradycyjny" materiał w ramach Black Metalu i jednocześnie kolejny od Thurthul, tyle że tym razem jest to już pełny album tego projektu. Łączą się tu ze sobą trzy charakterystyczne cechy. Styl, który można porównać do Gorgoroth czy Dark Funeral (bardzo fajne ściany gitar), odrobina melodyjności plus pogański pierwiastek. Za Thurthul odpowiedzialny jest Grief - znany z Nyctophilia, gdzie porusza bardziej depresyjno-melancholijne oblicze Black Metalu. "Fury of Ancient Race" to również silne nawiązanie do lat 90., acz właśnie ukierunkowane bardziej w początki sceny i tzw. Pagan Black Metal. Nie ma tu stricte nowego tworu, to działanie na dobrze znanych już patentach, z tym wyjątkiem, że połączone w nieco inny sposób, dając świeży efekt. Album nie wychodzi zbytnio przed szereg, jest kawałkiem dobrego, wprawnego rzemiosła z wyczuciem klimatu i autentyczną świadomością granej muzyki. Słychać też, że jest to granie i brzmienie wierne estetyce undergroundu, co nadaje im tej szczególnej dla tego typu nagrań atmosfery. Warto też zaznaczyć, że płyta ma dwa obliczą, bardziej diabelskie i to bardziej pogańsko-melodyjne (wychodzi to zwłaszcza w zestawieniu ze sobą otwierającego materiał "Honor and Pride" z utworem tytułowym). Nadaje to albumowi balansu, urozmaica go, dzięki czemu nie wieje tu nudą i ma on szansę wylądować w odtwarzaczu więcej niż raz. "Fury of Ancient Race" mogę z czystym sumieniem polecić każdemu, kto mocno siedzi przede wszystkim w pogańskim Black Metalu.

Another "traditional" material within Black Metal and another from Thurthul, but this time it is the full-length album of this project. Three distinctive features are combined here. A style that can be compared to Gorgoroth or Dark Funeral (very nice walls of guitars), a bit of melody plus a pagan element. Grief, known from Nyctophilia, stands behind Thurthul, where he touches the more depressing-melancholic face of Black Metal. "Fury of Ancient Race" is also a strong reference to the 90s, but just focused more on the beginnings of the scene and the so-called Pagan Black Metal. There is nothing new here, it works on well-known patents, except that they are combined in a slightly different way, giving a fresh effect. The album is not that much original, but it is a piece of good, skillful craft with a sense of climate and authentic awareness of the music played. You can also hear that it is stuff and sound loyal to underground aesthetics, which gives them a special atmosphere, typical for this kind of recordings. It is also worth noting that the album has two faces, more devilish and more pagan-melodic (it comes out especially when you compare the opening composition "Honor and Pride" with the title song). This gives the album balance, diversifies it, thanks to which there is no sign of boredom, so the CD has a chance to land in the player more than once. I can honestly recommend "Fury of Ancient Race" to anyone who enjoys Pagan Black Metal primarily.
