Root jest drugim po Master's Hammer wiodącym zespołem z Czech (niegdyś Czechsłowacji), który przyczynił się do rozwoju tamtejszej sceny ekstremalnego grania i zaznaczenia ich kraju na black metalowej mapie świata. Ten zespół to już niemal legenda. Można ich postawić obok nie tylko Master's Hammer, ale również takich grup jak Tormentor czy nasz rodzimy Kat. Root, podobnie jak wymienione przeze mnie zespoły, nie grał Black Metalu w stylu, jaki jest nam dobrze znany i jaki został zdefiniowany w latach 90. Był oryginalny, stawiający na wyjątkową atmosferę i mieszanie w tym diabelskim kotle wielu wpływów, m.in wywodzących się z Thrashu, Heavy czy bardzo wczesnej formy Death Metalu. Tę cechę dzielą poniekąd z rodakami z Master's Hammer.
"Zjeveni" jest debiutem tej grupy, debiutem, który z marszu wyrobił ich charakterystyczny styl i wizerunek (Bigboss był na scenie niemal niczym King Diamond), przynajmniej ten początkowy, który później ewoluował w kierunku bardziej epickiego grania. Na tym albumie grali jeszcze muzykę prostszą, uboższą aranżacyjnie, bardziej surową, ale wciąż niepozbawioną klimatu. Tematyką utworów rządzi szatan i okultyzm, a teksty są śpiewane w języku czeskim. Utwory co jakiś czas zmieniają tempo, występują recytacje, także atmosfera się zmienia, dzięki czemu nie wieje na płycie nudą. Rzecz jasna nie ujmuje to niczego ze spójności materiału. Bezapelacyjnie jest to jeden z klasyków wczesnego Black Metalu, jaki zrodził się za niegdysiejszą Żelazną Kurtyną.
Poniżej przedstawiam najnowszą reedycję tego materiału wydaną w tym roku przez Witching Hour Productions. Mamy tu do czynienia z dwupłytowym digipakiem ze sporą ilością archiwalnych zdjęć oraz bonusową płytą z nagraniami live z 1999 roku. Pod względem wizualnym jest to najlepsze jak dotąd wznowienie "Zjeveni", jakie się ukazało. Dostępne jest również w trzech wersjach winylowych i na kasecie.

Root is the second leading band from the Czech Republic (once Czechslovakia) after Master's Hammer, which contributed to the development of the local scene of extreme playing and marking their country on the black metal map of the world. This band is almost a legend. You can put them next to not only Master's Hammer, but also such groups as Tormentor or our Polish Kat. Root, like the bands I mentioned, did't play Black Metal in a style that is well known to us and was defined in the 90s. It was original, putting on a unique atmosphere and mixing many influences in this devil's cauldron, including those derived from Thrash, Heavy or very early Death Metal. They share this feature with their compatriots from Master's Hammer.
"Zjeveni" is the debut of this group, the debut that created their characteristic style and image instantly (Bigboss was almost like King Diamond on stage), at least the initial one, which later evolved towards more epic stuff. On this album, they played even simpler, poorer arranged music, more raw, but still with a climate. The theme of the songs is ruled by Satan and occultism, and the lyrics are sung in Czech. The songs change the tempo from time to time, there are recitations, and the atmosphere changes, so you don't get bored listening to it. Of course, this doesn't take anything from the consistency of the material. Undoubtedly, it is one of the classics of early Black Metal that was born behind the former Iron Curtain.
Below is the latest reissue of this material released this year by Witching Hour Productions. We are dealing here with a double-disc digipack with a large number of archive photos and a bonus disc with live recordings from 1999. Visually, this is the best reissue of "Zjeveni" to date. It is also available in three vinyl versions and on cassette.
