Ols - Widma (Pagan Records 2020)

"Widma" to trzeci pełny album folkowego/neofolkowego projektu, za którym stoi Anna Maria Oskierko, wokalistka i multiinstrumentalistka. Słyszałem dwa poprzednie krążki i muszę powiedzieć, że "Widma" są tym najdojrzalszym i najbardziej klimatycznym. W sumie koncept obracający się wokół tematyki przemijania i śmierci, jesieni życia zobowiązuje do konkretnej atmosfery. Cieszę się bardzo, że Ols trafił wraz z tym albumem pod skrzydła Pagan Records. Tomasz jest otwarty na dobrą muzykę, nie tylko stricte metalową, o czym świadczy chociażby wydanie Yearn of the Wicked. Ols zasługuje na dostrzeżenie i dobrego wydawcę. No, ale wróćmy do samej płyty. "Widma" to gra emocji, tych bardziej mrocznych folkowych dźwięków, pasaży linii wokalnych budujących atmosferę - mantrycznych, szamańskich, tworzących specyficzną aurę. Z jednej strony jest to bardzo refleksyjne, z drugiej nawet niepokojące, ale wciągające w ten swój spowity mrokiem świat. Wszystko otaczają bardzo fajne bębny i płynące w tle, hipnotyczne melodie. Za utwór sztandarowy uznaję tu "Siostry", jest pełen klimatu i bardzo chwytliwy, mimo swojej lekko ponurej otoczki. Momentalnie zaczyna nucić się pod nosem jego tekst. Ma tu również swoje pięć minut gitara elektryczna, która pięknie wybrzmiewa w "Ukojeniu". Ciekawe urozmaicenie jak na stricte folkowy album.
Powstała bardzo ciekawa, kompleksowa płyta i, tak jak wspomniałem, bardzo emocjonalna. Słychać tu inspiracje Heilung, Wardruną, Tenhi czy Myrkur. W moim mniemaniu Ols zasługuje, aby stawiać go obok tych zespołów, bo to w sumie jest taki nasz Heilung, tylko mniej pierwotny, "plemienny", a bardziej kontemplacyjny, refleksyjny. No i jednoosobowy. I tu Ania zasługuje na ogromny szacunek, bo cały album to przede wszystkim jej praca. Kto lubi folkowe granie, nie powinien przejść obok tej płyty obojętnie. Rzekłem!

"Widma" is the third full album of the folk/neo-folk project created by Anna Maria Oskierko, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. I heard the previous two albums and I have to say that "Widma" is the most mature and atmospheric one. All in all, the concept revolving around the subject of transience and death, autumn of life obliges to a specific atmosphere. I am very happy that Ols signed a deal with Pagan Records for this album. Tomasz is open to good music, not only strictly metal, as evidenced by the release of Yearn of the Wicked. Ols deserves to be heard wider and gain a good publisher. Well, let's get back to the album itself. "Widma" is a game of emotions, those more darker folk sounds, passages of vocal lines building the atmosphere - mantric, shamanic, creating a specific aura. On the one hand it is very reflective, on the other it is even disturbing, but it draws you into this dark world. Everything is surrounded by very nice drums and hypnotic melodies flowing in the background. I consider "Siostry" to be the flagship song here, it is full of climate and very catchy, despite its slightly gloomy feeling. You immediately begin to sing its lyrics while listening. Electric guitar has its five minutes as well, which beautifully sounds in "Ukojenie". Interesting variety for a strictly folk album.
A very interesting, comprehensive record was created and, as I mentioned, very emotional. Heilung, Wardruna, Tenhi and Myrkur inspirations are heard here. In my opinion, Ols deserves to be put next to these bands, because it's actually our Polish Heilung, only less tribal, and more contemplative, reflective. And it's one man project. And here Ania deserves great respect, because the whole album is primarily her work. Who likes folk stuff should not pass by this album indifferently. I have spoken!
