Titan Mountain - Monumental Furious Shadow Metal (Artyrant Records 2020)

Po wielu latach milczenia pod tą nazwą powraca do nas na moment Titan Mountain - w latach 90-tych wykonujący bardzo dobry, klimatyczny, lekko melodyjny Black Metal w stylu starego Limbonic Art, Emperor czy kolegów po fachu z przasnyskiego Thirst. "Monumental Furious Shadow Metal" (cóż za tytuł!) to po części powrót do tamtych lat i połączenie starego materiału z nowym w instrumentalnej formie. Nazgrim już dawno odszedł od Black Metalu, skupiając się na melodyjnym graniu i symfonice, odrobinie progresji, i to na tym albumie słychać. W teoretycznie black metalowy schemat wpisane zostało bardzo wiele wpływów, o których zastosowanie chyba mało kto by się pokusił. Poza elementami symfonicznymi, wkradają się nam tu nuty rockowe, folkowe, power metalowe, thrashowe czy elementy Metalu progresywnego. No i najważniejsza rzecz - na pierwszym planie jest gitara i solówki. Tutaj warto wspomnieć, że Nazgrim pokusił się o zaproszenie paru muzyków, aby udzielili się na płycie, m.in. przy gitarowych solach, perkusji czy partiach fletu (szacun dla Moniki Buller). Wyszedł materiał bardzo nieszablonowy, muzycznie bogaty (kompozycje trwają tu średnio po 9 minut), ale niekiedy mam wrażenie trochę niespójny i odrobinę przekombinowany, ale to tylko moja subiektywna ocena. Mam wrażenie, że chcąc połączyć stary materiał z nowymi inspiracjami muzycznymi ten leżący u podstaw zatracił swój klimat i magię - rozjechał się po różnych stylach. Niemniej nie mogę odmówić pracy i warsztatu, jaki na tym krążku mocno słychać. Każdy utwór jest inny i z każdego można wydobyć zupełnie różne odniesienia. Jednym słowem - powstała płyta, która skierowana jest do słuchaczy lubiących gitarową wirtuozerię i eksperymenty, żonglowanie różnymi typami grania. Ja, mówiąc szczerze, do takich nie należę, ale nie wolno mi nie docenić umiejętności i pracy, jaka została włożona w "Monumental Furious Shadow Metal". Mimo wszystko na dobre zostanę przy starych demach/płytach Titan Mountain, bo jednak tamte twory to coś, co w 100% do mnie przemawia.

After many years of silence under this name, Titan Mountain returns to us for a moment - in the 90s performing very good, atmospheric, slightly melodic Black Metal in the style of old Limbonic Art, Emperor or colleagues from Thirst from Przasnysz (Poland). "Monumental Furious Shadow Metal" (what a title!) is partially a return to those years and a mix of old material with a new one in an instrumental form. Nazgrim has left Black Metal long time ago, focusing on melodic playing and symphonics, a bit of progression, and this is what you can hear on this album. To Black Metal scheme a lot of influences were added - probably hardly anyone would be tempted to apply such solutions. In addition to symphonic parts, rock, folk, power metal, thrash and progressive metal elements can be found. And the most important thing - guitar and solos are in the foreground. It is worth mentioning here that Nazgrim invited some musicians to contribute to the album, including guitar solos, drums and flute parts (congrats to Monika Buller). Very unconventional, musically rich material was created (the compositions last for an average of 9 minutes), but sometimes I have an impression that it is incoherent and a bit over-the-top, but this is only my subjective opinion. I have the feeling that wanting to combine old material with new musical inspirations, the underlying one has lost its atmosphere and magic - it disappears through different styles. However, I can't refuse the workshop and hard work that are strongly heard on this album. Each song is different and you can get completely different references from each one. In a word, the album is addressed to listeners who like guitar virtuosity and experiments, mixing various types of playing. Honestly, I don't belong to such, but I do not underestimate the skill and work that was put in "Monumental Furious Shadow Metal". After all, I will stick to old demos/albums from Titan Mountain for good, because this stuff is something that appeals to me in 100%.
