Summon - Helios (Godz Ov War 2020)

Po dwóch latach przerwy powraca z nowym materiałem portugalski Summon. EP "Helios" to nic innego jak porcja gęstej i dusznej mieszanki Black, Death i Doom Metalu. Na niniejszą EPkę składają się trzy dłuższe utwory - Helios I, II oraz III. Każda z nich przytłacza swoim ciężarem, jest niczym wolno mieszany kocioł rozżarzonej smoły. Z jednej strony mamy doom metalowy walec, z drugiej death metalowe riffy i agresję, a z jeszcze kolejnej wyłazi na nas black metalowe diabelstwo w postaci atmosfery i opętańczych wokali (growli też nie brakuje, gwoli ścisłości). To żywa porcja niczym nieokiełznanego chaosu.
Summon są tu wierni ścieżce obranej na swoich poprzednich materiałach i sukcesywnie kontynuują swe dzieło. Produkcja "Helios" utrzymana jest w mrocznym, oldschoolowym klimacie, który doskonale pasuje do ich muzyki. Bez tej odrobiny surowości brzmienia EPka nie brzmiałaby tak niepokojąco i złowieszczo.
Może jakoś szczególnie mnie ten materiał nie zachwycił - nie wychodzi przed szereg tego, co już w tym klimacie słyszałem. Nie mam pewności, czy po dłuższym czasie będę do niego wracał. Niemniej bardzo doceniam pracę, jaką zespół włożył w powstanie tego materiału, a zwłaszcza w jego atmosferę i osiągnięcie doskonałego balansu wpływów oraz brzmień składających się na ich muzykę. To rzemiosło na bardzo dobrym poziomie. Jest to powód, dla którego mogę z czystym sumieniem polecić wam "Helios". Warto się przy tej płytce zatrzymać chociaż na trochę i dać się wciągnąć w jej śmiercionośną, mitologiczną otchłań.

After two years break, Portuguese Summon returns with a new material. EP "Helios" is nothing but a dense and stuffy mix of Black, Death and Doom Metal. This EP consists of three longer compositions - Helios I, II and III. Each of them overwhelms with its weight, it is like a slowly mixed cauldron of hot tar. On the one hand, we have a doom metal roller, on the other, death metal riffs and aggression, and on yet another black metal devilishness in the form of atmosphere and possessed vocals (growls also, for accuracy). It's a living portion of unrestrained chaos.
Summon here are faithful to the path chosen on their previous materials and successively continue their work. The production of "Helios" is maintained in a dark, oldschool climate that perfectly matches their music. Without this bit of austerity of sound, the EP would not be so disturbing and ominous.
Maybe somehow this material did not particularly impress me - it does not beat the competition I have already heard in this genre. I am not sure if I will come back to it after some time. Nevertheless, I really appreciate the work that the band put into creating this material, especially its atmosphere and achieving a perfect balance of influences and sounds that make up their music. This is a piece of art at a very good level. This is the reason why I can honestly recommend "Helios" to you. It is worth givin' it a go and let yourself be drawn into its deadly, mythological abyss.
